Grossed out

A woman in our office brushes her teeth every day in our public bathroom. The idea of it grosses me out. Today I had to listen to her gagging on her toothbrush while taking a pee. Fastest bathroom break ever!

Re: Grossed out

  • Why on earth is she gagging while brushing her teeth?

  • I HATE when people do that!!!! I'm all for good dental hygiene, but I don't need to see you brushing your teeth! It skeeves me out. That's why there are water less toothbrushes!

  • @photokitty So true! It creeps me out having people on the phone to the backdrop of plops and steady or squirting streams all graced by the grand finale flush! Yuck!
  • I try to flush at the most inopportune moment when people are not he phone in the stall next to me! bawhahaha!

I do that too!!! Especially because there are signs in our bathrooms that say cell phone use is prohibited. We all have our own offices for the most part so there is no excuse for it.
  • I will say I am guilty of the tooth brushing thing at work. but its not on the reg, just when my teeth feel really icky

  • We not only get people brushing, but also flossing (we have a large jar of those individually-wrapped floss picks in the women's washroom).

However, the grossest personal hygiene offence has to be the guy who used to sit one cubicle over from me who CUT HIS NAILS AT WORK.

  • I think I have you beat- my entire floor of my office was covered in dead ants today. I don't mean our building in general- just MY office!! We got a snow storm so apparently they tried to come in through the cracks to hide but it has been sprayed so once they all got in they all died....so frigen nasty, but I guess better than alive!

  • I brush my teeth after every meal so I am guilty of this but I really don't feel like it's bad hygiene or gross. People take dumps in their, I don't understand why me brushing my teeth is gross.

If she's gagging, I wonder if she's pregnant?

I never got the cell phone usage in bathrooms, makes me think of the sample swabs of peoples phones on news journal programs where there is ecoli and fecal matter on peoples cells.

  • I thinks it's gross to go all day without brushing your teeth.

  • @jenna8984 I HATE ANTS. With a passion. They're sneaky and gross and if there's one, there's a million. UGH. I feel so bad for you!

@OnionBreath -- if gagging means you're knocked up, then men must be able to incubate a baby now (and have a ridiculously long gestation period) because my FI gags every time he brushes his teeth. I don't understand it. He can barely touch his tongue with the toothbrush and he starts hacking. It's so gross.

  • I'm not bothered by teeth brushing either, but I am bothered by cell phone use on the toilet.
Awhile ago a woman used to pump in front of one of our sinks while talking on her cell phone. It was odd, considering no other mothers found it necessary to pump in there. She wasn't exactly modest about it either. Soon thereafter our employer officially designated a private comfort room. Only when that happened did I wonder why in the world we never had one to begin with. Oh, HR.

  • Another weird/gross thing I've seen is showering at work. We have an actual shower room (ie: fully tiled room with sink and walk-in shower) because it was cheaper to install than a room with a foot-washing station for our observant Muslim employees. Generally, it goes unused (aside from the aforementioned foot washing).

However, I have seen the odd guy in the office actually decide to shower midday because he has gotten all sweaty while playing video games, foosball, or table tennis (yes, our office is like Google and has all of this haha). Really?? Showering at work? I know it's a private room, but I think that's a little much...

  • I think they are legally obligated to find a private place for mothers to pump, no? My fiance was annoyed recently that they had to give up a conference room every time a woman pumps. He didn't understand why she didn't just do it in the bathroom.  I bitched him out for his comments.

And my friend had trouble brushing her teeth through  most of her pregnancy, she kept wanting to throw up from it. She got special "tooth towels" from the dentist and flossed a lot to avoid it.

  • I brush my teeth at work sometimes, especially if I had something offensive for lunch or have had sweets. We have a small office with single person person restroom but I would do it in a public one too.

Since it is such a small office you can hear everything going on in there. It is known in our office you don't poop (go next door) and when you pee you let the water run to cover the sound of your urinating. We have one dude that refuses to follow theses unwritten rules. It is gross and he knows it.
  • @Seneca I would hate to work there! The bathroom situation sounds horrible!

Time for a little elevator music in there or something!
  • Re: gagging

I frequently gag while brushing my teeth because I brush my tongue as well and accidentally stick my toothbrush too far back.  That's what I assume this lady was doing.
  • Guilty of brushing my teeth at work when I have a dentist appt immediately after. It feels weird to me, and I'm not sure why. For some reason I feel the need to explain myself to anyone I encounter in there ("uuggh dentist appts are the WORST!").

I do think there are tons worse things that go on in bathrooms, at least in my office. I've been told someone picks their nose and wipes it on the wall in the mens room. Evidently there's an impressive collection in one particular spot. Gag.

I have to say that I have never encountered any of this at work before! Yay lucky me!

Hearing people on their cell phones while on the toilet or they're in the bathroom and think no one is there till the toilet flushes has happened to me, just not at work. xD Those are fun. Hehe!
