I would say for those that are married you could put both names such as Megan and Emily Smith or Mrs and Mrs Smith.

For those that are NOT married, I would put their names and Ms. Allison Jones and Ms. Karie Jacobson (obviously whether you put Ms. or not is up to you. I did it because its more formal)
  • right thats what I was thinking!! do you think it matters who goes 1st? like does my cousin come 1st then her partner or does it matter??
  • I invited my dad's cousin and his husband and I addressed it with my relative's name first and then his husband, for no reason other than that's how we always refer to them.

So it was Mr. Cousin Lastname and Mr. Cousin's Husband Lastname.

I think no one will get offended if you put your relative first and their same-sex partner/spouse second. You're honouring their union. That's the important thing.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • If they're married, I'd use:

Mr. John Doe and Mr. William Doe
Ms. (or Mrs.) Jane Doe and Ms. (or Mrs.) Lucy Doe

    If they're not married, use

    Mr. John Doe
    Mr. William Doe

    Ms. Jane Doe
    Ms. Lucy Doe

If they don't live together, address it to one person's home and then list that person first with the other person beneath.

This works the same as with opposite-sex couples.

Married couples with the same last name:
    Mr. and Mr. John Doe
    Mrs. and Mrs. Sue Smith
(I am not positive on these.)

For married couples with different last names, use "and," and put them on the same line if possible:
Mr. John Doe and Mr. Bob Smith
Ms. Jane Doe and Ms. Sue Smith

For couples who are not married, the names go on different lines:
    Mr. John Doe
    Mr. Bob Smith

    Ms. Jane Doe
    Ms. Sue Smith

When addressing a couple who does not live together, put the occupant's name at the top for the post office. If they do live together, there's not really an established order (also with opposite-sex couples, though this board generally follows "ladies first"). Some people say alphabetical order, or you can do the person to whom you're closest. If someone has a title, e.g., Dr., put that person first.
This is perfect, but I would add one thing.  For couples that are not legally married because they can't be but otherwise behave as a married couple, it's best to treat them like a married couple.
