Have you been to Antigua (and Barbuda)?

We just booked our Honeymoon today to Cocobay Resort in Antigua - I'm so excited!!! Has anyone been to Antigua, or even better, to this resort? I am going to order a paperback guide and start my research ASAP to make sure we see all the great sights and beaches and eat the great food! Also - do you have any tips on booking the flights? It looks like we need to take 3-4 flights each way, which seems crazy.
Any input helps - thank you!

Re: Have you been to Antigua (and Barbuda)?

  • We went to Antigua in 2011. Very beautiful island. We stayed at Sandals so I'm of no help with the resort you are staying at.

I can te you we flew out of Philly and had one layover (Miami) not multiple flights. We flew on American Airlines.

As for what sites to see and so on, just google it...it's free. Also, TripAdvisor is very helpful. I used both to do all my research on what to see/do.

We saw ShirleyHeights,Falmouth Harbor,Nelsons Dock Yard(we rented a car and drove around the island to see those), did an extreme circum nav tour which took us on a speed boat around the island as well as to sting ray city, snorkeling and to a beach that can only be reached by boat.
  • I meant to add, about flights. Find out what airlines fly out of and into your airport (it should be on their website. Go to each airlines website, plug in your departure airport code, the arriving airport code, travel dates, select no layover and one layover and search. Do this for each one until you find a flight that works for you. It's very tedious and some will say to use kayak but kayak does not pull up every airline that flies out of the departure airport. There is another website similar to kayak but I've never used it and the name escapes me at the moment.

Also, you can try leaving out of a different airport that is close to you (if that's an option). In our case we've got Philly (our preference), JFK in New York and New Wark in New Jersey.
