Wedding Woes

Hope nobody is frozen

How was the weekend?

We had Max's party. The hot chocolate and coffee bars were awesome!  Max had a great time running around with his balloons and sort of opening presents.  My ILs are inconsiderate asses, but I shouldn't be surprised anymore.  The family of 5 cancelled at 8:30.  sFIL showed up 2.5 hrs after the party started. He walked in, MIL pulled out all the food I put away, he shoved some food in his face then plopped on the couch.  I kind of shoved him out the door and we left for my folks.

We spent Saturday night drinking, eating, and opening presents. Then more drinking, eating, and playing games.  Sunday was hanging out and heading back to reality. I need to find a place for all the new gifts. It's freezing so I think we'll hunker down and watch a new movie. DH's campus is closed, but he's working.  Bummer.

Re: Hope nobody is frozen

  • I decided not to go to work.  I'm experiencing some guilt, b/c I only live a mile away, but the roads are still crap and I drive a Nissa Maxima.  Add to that the -24 wind chill and it's just really not worth it to me.  If I were to slide off the road, walking would be dangerous. I have to keep justifying it in my head.

We stayed in almost all weekend.  Hung out with some friends Saturday night, playing games and did that on Sunday night too.  But it was bitterly cold and snowing most of the weekend.  I'm so thankful today for my house and heat and can't stop worrying about the lives out there that don't have these things.
  • We just got a bunch of ice and about 0.5 inches of snow, if that. It's in the negatives with wind chill now and I'm just angry. They forecasted four inches of snow and this is the shit we get. I wanna live in Vermont again because these winters are bullshit. When I was a kid, we got amazing snows, but not so much anymore. So lame.

  • Weekend was OK.

Actual temp here this morning is -24.  Windchill is -53.  The Governor declared on Friday that all public schools close today due to the cold.  All private schools have followed suit.  Some businesses are closed as well.  My employer never closes so it's business as usual here.

Dh brought me to work today so I didn't have to stand outside and wait for the bus - yay!

  • V- you did the right thing.  I've already decided if preschool is open tomorrow we still aren't going. There are some dumbasses on a mom board taking their newborns out "just because."  Also, the banner I pseudo copied off you turned out awesome, but I left my camera at my parents!

  • I just sat here thinking, Banner? what banner? Oh yeah!! Wonderful, I can't wait to see it!

Hi from Florida! No snow, but really cold, biting winds, wettish weather. Currently 44 outside, but we're supposed to go into the 20s tonight with a high of 39 tomorrow. Currently in my office at work, have a blanket wrapped around me, space heater going by my feet, fingerless gloves on. Oh and a heating pad on my back/hip, but thats due to the leg issues I've been dealing with. Normally I'd call myself a weanie, but they don't keep the heat/air on in the building on weekends. It'll take two days for the heat to really work here and warm up the place.  No expected snow, but if we get some, I'll be on here freaking out asking all the northerners what to do :-)

Got my foundation garments over the weekend. Meeting DJ tonight, Photographer tomorrow, and first fitting Wednesday. My ring should also be in today. Have to send FI's back- too small. Getting married in just under 9 weeks. Fingers crossed that we get told to stay home tomorrow- I didn't get much done around the house this weekend, and I've plenty to do, plus wedding stuff!

    Stay warm everyone!

Edit for update- asked the boss lady if the generators to the building go out overnight, with the expected high of 39, would we work from home or be popsicles tomorrow...apparently we will be popsicles. I insist on being chocolate flavored, at least.

  • We got our cars in the garage this weekend, so YAY!  DH is home.  I'm working, even though the office is closed.

We had people over to watch the game on Saturday.  I'm sure my house could be heard down the street with the Colts win.  We were so loud.

Yesterday, I worked.  The boys were outside on and off.  I think we did three rounds of shoveling/blowing. Our drive and walk don't look too bad.  There's a decent size drift at our front door.

It's a little chilly in the house, as the heat is having a hard time keeping up. That's what layers are for.  :)  I'm so grateful my IL's bought us one of those infared space heaters for Christmas.  It's definitely helped keep the living room toasty..
  • Yeah, screw this cold, I'm WFH today. Not even much in the way of snow. Just wicked cold :P

Other than that, errands on Sat, anniversary dinner on Sunday. Our anni is technically today, but with bitter cold and DH has a doctor appt that we have really not been looking forward to...a little anticlimactic.

  • It was a bitterly cold 52 F this morning. This is why I love living in AZ. Today was DD's first day at daycare. It's just a half day and I'm going to the doctor but still- it was nice being able to eat breakfast with out having to hold her. Last night she also slept for 6 hours which was awesome. The weekend was crazy. On Saturday I took DS to see Frozen. Came home and dealt with fussy DD. Sunday I took both kids and all of our laundry to my mom's house because our washer door broke on Friday (of course, that happened right after DD pooped all over me).
  • Cannot retreive child from my parent's house still--to much snow.

But I'm not leaving the house, and I"m sipping cocoa.

This so made me smile.  I love all things relative.  (I am genuinely not being sarcastic or mocking.)

In the Chicago area today, our actual temperature is -15, with windchills of -45.  We just laid down 18 inches of snow in the past 3 days.  It's gorgeous to look at, but I am staying inside for the most part today. The high tomorrow will be 0. If we got to a temperature of 44, we would be calling it downright balmy, and "hoodie" weather.

Rather than wrap yourself up in a blanket, you are better off layering the clothes you wear.  Thin and multiple layers will keep you comfortable.
  • Yep, 16 over here. I won't complain with what you ladies are dealing with.

  • Not freezing here thankfully. Ended up being on call for work last night and didn't go in. Which worked out because the baby work up congested at 1 am, and sucking her nose out is totally a two person job. Once we got her clear, fed a little more and rocked back to sleep, she slept until 7, thank goodness.

The weekend was good, productive. Got Christmas down, cleaned some. Went to Build a Bear yesterday and ended up getting baby girl a stuffed red panda, she loves it. We held up others to her and nothing garnered the squeals and laughs the red panda did.

Today is unexpected day off, so cleaning, cooking dinner, and having rosca de reyes for Epiphany.
  • It was -56 with wind chill when I left for work.  I'm sitting in front of a drafty window but I'm also nose deep in an underground utilities plan.  Oh boy...so far I have over 11,000 feet of pipe, not include storm.  This could get interesting.

Especially considering I'll probably get revised plans tomorrow.  Whee?

Weekend was pretty quiet, got to spend some good quality time with H, slept in both Saturday and Sunday and still got some chores done.  I am a happy camper (just a bit cold).  H is OOT this week, so I'll miss him, but it's good because really the distance does make the heart fonder.
  • I got to stay home today - I work in Lansing and the Mayor called a state of emergency.  Yay.

Freaking bitter cold here.  I can't wait for later in the week.  17 on Wednesday and back in the 30's by Thursday.  The grocery stores look like people were preparing for some kind of end of the world event.  They were buying 600-700 dollars at a time - the lines were worse than Black Friday.  I tried to use 2 different ATMs and they were out of cash.  People went off the deep end crazy.
  • work just cancelled on me until THursday.
    I have a working-for-myself project I MUST finish today--I'm taking it as a sign that I"m home w/o a kid.
  • I'm at work on mandatory over-time until further notice to deal with this stupid cold weather. I am not thrilled.
