Reception themes- using both our careers?

Can anyone think of a way to combine two careers into one reception?  One is an editor/writer, and one is a researcher of nuerosicence.  I can't think of anyway to combine the two of them.

Re: Reception themes- using both our careers?

  • There probably isn't one-and I can't see neuroscience at a reception.
  • Yeah, you're probably right, with neuroscience specifically, but maybe just science in general?

  • Why do you need your careers to be the theme of your reception?  We're a lawyer and a financial professional.  I can't imagine a more boring reception if we went that route.

Are you just asking about putting little touches?  Flowers made from pages of books are pretty; you could incorporate some beakers or other scientific glass objects; but honestly, I don't really see those things going together at a wedding.  Are you naming your tables?  That's one way you could add some touches; use favorite books, scientific terms, or famous writers/ scientists.

Well, you could have nice, unusual centerpieces-maybe small bonsai trees, plant towers, or something like that.  And you could have copies of famous books or perhaps magazines there, like maybe The Origin of Species (if you aren't getting married in a really conservative church) or Principia Mathematica by Bertrand Russell, or copies of Discover or National Geographic with nice covers.  None of that is neuroscience though-I really don't see how that would fit.

But aside from that, I'm not sure what else you could do.
  • We thought it would be fun, we don't have to have both of them in the reception, we just thought it would be cute to have little touches, I do like the ideas that have been given so far, maybe centerpieces could be framed National Geographic covers (or covers from writing magazines)  and paper flowers from old books could be put in beakers.

  • One wedding I went to was a doctor and a PhD scientist, and they had some kind of display (maybe on the escort card table, or something like that) that was set up as a scientific poster...the kind you see at a conference (you know, abstract, background, methods, results, etc...)

You could forgo the specific careers, and just have some academic touches, like the books and pens and things previously mentioned.
  • I find it odd to have a theme around your career.   Heck, I wanted to keep my work as far out of my wedding as possible!  Don't you have any hobbies or likes that would be more appropriate?  Otherwise, I find the best theme to be simply a "wedding" theme.
  • We aren't doing themes around careers but I am getting a grooms cake that looks like a white coat (FI will be finishing up med school at the time of the wedding).  But I wouldn't go any farther than that because your career takes up so much of your life already, take a break from it!

I do think books would be really cute if you did want to use a theme. That way you can connect with both research and writing.  I am already thinking of tons of book/library/academic type ideas so you should be able to do that pretty easily!!
