Hyatt Cambridge

We are between the Hyatt Cambridge and the Westin Copley.  Actually similar price, but only difference is Westin our guest have to pay $25/per car parking.  Thats standard in any Boston venue though.  I love the Hyatt views of the Boston skyline, but the hotel itself is just blah.  The decor other than the fantastic windows and view is just kind of outdated/eccentric.  I feel like it reminds of a very cheap hotel I stayed at in TX recently on a lay over.  My fiancé likes it and so does his family, my side is the total opposite.  The Westin has a plain room (so I can do more to it) and a view of copley square.  They are also giving us a tasting before we book. They both do outside catering (not from a the hotel restaurant) so I was cautious about it.  For out of town guest being in back bay is much nicer, because I feel the Hyatt is kind of no where walkable.  Any thoughts on either of these to places? Anyone been to weddings here? Thanks for your help :)

Re: Hyatt Cambridge

  • I went to a wedding at the Hyatt and it was great.  The food was awesome- best food of any wedding I've attended (ha, besides my own!)- and the views can't be beat.  Honestly, most hotels look similar- the Westin rooms and pretty typical and so are the Hyatt's rooms.  Yes, I agree the Hyatt is a little outdated, but the ballroom with the view itself was really nice- all I remember/noticed was the great views and I was pretty wowed.  The courtyard is also a nice ceremony space.
  • Thanks for your response.   Kind of put my mind at ease about the food.  I just feel like I wish the Hyatt wasn't so crazy with the decor.  I just feel like i'm jumping out of the 80s.  Hope the day is nice so we can hop on over to Boston and take photos.  Not much to take photos their besides the view. Not sure where we will choose....hard decision.  I don't really care about the rooms...I just don't see anywhere to take pictures inside that hotel on a rainy day.   The brick look with red carpet just doesn't do it for me.  The view, the tent, and free parking are it for me.
  • Harvard and MIT could be nice places to take pictures- there's a lot of great buildings there or you could even go to Harvard Square.i  Just busy city scenes can make for great pictures.  What about the bar that overlooks the river- could you take pictures in there with the water in the background if it rains?  Ya, the carpets are gross upon closer inspection, but most hotels have a crazy colored carpet.  Food was really great, so you shouldn't worry about that.  No experience with Westin as far as weddings, but I've been in it and I agree that the overall decor is more modern.
  • Ended up going with the Westin!
