Tasting of 'final' cake flavors

Hi!

We did our cake tasting months ago and selected our baker. At the time we made notes on what we liked but I was wondering if once we pick our 'final' combination of cake and filling do we get to taste it again or just trust that we will like it? Does anyone have thoughts or experience on this?

Thanks!

Re: Tasting of 'final' cake flavors

  • I am pretty sure every baker will have a different policy.  Ours doesn't typically do another tasting, so we took notes about the cakes we liked before we booked and made our selection from there.  We did do another tasting after booking to taste her GF cakes because we did have a small GF cake for guests who needed accommodations.

I am pretty sure if we had asked to do a second tasting to taste her cakes again to make a selection, she would have said yes, but it's not what she normally does.  You should ask.
  • I agree it might vary from place to place.  We did not have another tasting.  However, we were OOT from the wedding location so it might have been more to do with that then them not doing another one. Not sure, we never asked.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • All the bakers I met with in my area only did one cake tasting. If you wanted a second one you had to pay for it. That may be an option for you if you really want a second tasting.

This is what H and I ran into with both our baker and caterer.

See if your baker can make small (6" or so) cakes and then order one in the flavors you choose if you really want to make sure you like it.  But chances are the cake will be fine even if you don't taste it again.

  • Thanks everyone for your replies!! It is very helpful to hear the experiences of other couples.
