Cocktail hour music- 90's to today

Our rustic wedding will be in a barn next November. We'll be playing music like Colbie Caillat, Coldplay, John Mayer, etc. for dinner. I am not a country music fan, and since my fiance and I were born in 1989 and 1990 I thought it would be fun to have cocktail music that has been popular throughout our lives. I was thinking we'd pick our favorite song from each year ('89-2014) or just our favorites over the time period. Would this alienate the older and younger than 1990s crowd? I don't want to play all music popular now, or all older music (I like Frank Sinatra but I don't think that type of music would be right for a barn). Any ideas would be helpful!

Re: Cocktail hour music- 90's to today

  • I like your idea, but I think it's a good idea to incorporate at least a little older music. So let's say your playlist has 100 songs. 80 of them can be from the 90s to today, but 20 of them should be older.
  • I would agree. You want your guests to enjoy what they listen to. Try to incorporate everything from every generation
