What's Still on Your To-Do List?

We just put a deposit down on our venue 2 weeks ago, so I'm all set for the ceremony space & reception, and the venue has in-house catering so the food is covered as well. They don't do a cake there though, and I've yet to start looking for a bakery. I did buy my wedding dress, and I have an appointment this weekend with a tailor to get alterations started. I don't have my Justice of the Peace picked out yet. I don't have my bridesmaid dress or tuxes picked out. I haven't chosen a DJ. I'm not positive about my photographer. And I haven't even thought about flowers. I mean, I've thought about them...but I haven't actually done anything productive in choosing them for the day.

Am I the only one totally behind?:( I know I can get it all done, but I see all these people who have been planning for 2 years and it makes me think that I'm screwed haha! So, what's still on all of your to-do lists?

I'd say you're a bit behind. If I were you I'd try to book the florist, baker, and J.o.P soon. They can book up fast and some will only do one wedding a day/or weekend. We still have invites to do, some rentals to coordinate and décor stuff to finalize. We're taking a break from planning until after the new year though. Best of luck to you!

    Thanks:)

Yeah, I have a JoP in mind, she's a friend of the family; I just haven't asked her yet.

My cousin is a photographer and I'm hoping she'll do my photos the day of, but I also haven't asked her yet either. She's planning her September wedding, so I don't want to stress her out about mine.

I'm not huge on flowers, but it's definitely something I've put off because I was really overwhelmed when I first looked. There's too many flowers and the prices are throwing me off.

Cake is a little easier. I have a few aspiring bakers in the family. Or else I might get one from Big Y; they actually do wedding cakes now, which surprised me, and I like their cake, so...we'll see.

If my JoP comes through and my cousin is okay with doing my pictures, I'll feel a whole lot better about my planning. *Fingers crossed*

I still have a quite a bit to do also. I got a little stressed out and then the holidays came so I've been putting off wedding stuff. Still to do:

    - Find an officiant (this will be the third time I've had to look for one)
    - Pick flowers and get them ordered
    - Pick BM's dresses
    - Find tuxes/suits for the guys
    - Buy bridal party gifts
    - Make table numbers
    - Make invitations
    - Favors
    - Do a tasting at the venue and figure out our set up and timeline for the day of
    - Make an appointment to get my dress altered
    - Make escort cards
    - Create a list and timeline for my DOC
    - Make a music playlist
    - Find a calligrapher
    - Find ceremony and cocktail hour musicians
    - Find containers for my centerpieces
    - Make a list of photos we need taken for the photographer

I think there are probably a few more little things I forgot, but this list should keep me busy for awhile :)

We have most of the major things done because we rushed through a bunch, knowing that we were planning in under a year, but I'm realizing that we have less than 5 months to go and I need to start getting my shit together on the rest of it haha. We still have to...

    - Finish handing out/mailing the freaking Save The Dates. Seriously. Sooo behind on that!
    - Decide on invitation wording and submit the wording and deposit to the vendor (already liaised with her about this)
    - Finalize the menu (which will be available in the new year)
    - Sample and book a patisserie to make a croquembouche for us
    - FI needs to make a call on whether he's buying or renting a suit, and then get on doing that (and his bro needs to rent one, too)
    - Dress fittings start in late January
    - Meet with florist again in the new year to confirm flower choices and arrangement details
    - Discuss with Events Director at the venue about music (we want to use an iPod because the venue/wedding is so small) and confirm with her that I'm allowed to hang flowers from the chandeliers (lol)
    - Final meeting with the pastor in March to confirm ceremony details
    - Make sure that the BM dress my sister is borrowing from my SIL fits her properly
    - Make a music playlist and figure out key pieces (processional, recessional)
    - Decide what to do about escort cards and table numbers
    - Figure out my jewellery and non-shoe accessories
    - Book hair and makeup trial
    - Bridal party gifts (about a third done)
    - Figure out transportation, because we're likely driving ourselves
    - Buy wedding bands and gift for FI

...andddd lose whatever weight I inevitably gain this holiday season haha

I try to focus on the main tasks at hand, otherwise I'll get really overwhelmed! So here are my top 3:

-Meet with potential caterer for a tasting beginning of Jan.

    - Meet with potential DJ for quote, also beginning of Jan.

    - Begin craft projects, specifically loads of paper flowers for our ceremony background.

omg this post makes me want to throw up.  I have told FI that January I want to get done his suit and I think photographer.  But here is what we need to do:

    ~Photographer
    ~Mens suits
~My fittings (first is scheduled early Feb)
~Make sure my now pregnant MOH (her third!! :D) has her new dress
~Decide on officiant (it sucks when you FI wants one person and you want another)
    ~DJ
    ~Center pieces
~Cupcakes - we think we found the place, but they are selling the business to ppl who plan to keep it a cupcake shop but I have to call mid january to okay and finalize everything.  They did save our date though, so fingers crossed
~Make signs for the wedding (don't ask, just go with it)
    ~Transportation
~Hair and makeup (I don't even have a person or place in mind so this will be fun)
    ~Book Hotel for 2 or 3 nights
~Register (oh yeah, this is what we are getting done in Jan as well)
    ~Order invites

Yeah, I'm stopping there...so I can go barf.  I'm just going to hold off until the new year. :/

I'm feeling very behind and overwhelmed.  We just finally met with a priest to have the weddign at a church but still need to do pre cana classes (which were suppose to be done 6 months before the wedding...eek!)    My dress came in but I haven't gone in for a fitting because I need shoe's first.  I haven't talked to anyone about flowers.  Just yesterday I ordered supplies to make my invitations.  Other than flowers, I do have the major things booked (venue which includes catering, dj, photographer, hair/makeup and now the church) but there are just SO many small details!   Only 1 of my bridemaids have bought a dress (they are all just picking out their own).    I have no clue where to go on the honeymoon.  I need to register, decide on favors, grooms attire, bridal party gifts...the list goes on and on.   so stressful and i really am not a good planner!

@Kristen625 I feel you on the barfing. I thought we were doing soooo well... Until I actually listed everything that's left! And I just realized that we haven't registered, either. Whoops.

    It's crunch time!

-Bridesmaids need to order dresses (4 out of 6 have already done so, gotta get on top of the other 2!)

    - transportation
    -hotel
    - buy the sand for our sand ceremony
    - organize ceremony with officiant
    - plan music with DJ & ceremony musicians
    - plan the menu
    - address & send the invitations
    - set up hair & makeup trial
    - visit florist for centerpiece mock-ups
    - mother of groom & my grandma need to get dresses
    - figure out what we're gonna do with our dog so that we can take pics with him the morning of the wedding & then get a dog sitter for the rest of night

Thank goodness! I thought I was the only one! Maybe it's a symptom of May 2014 brides :)

    I need to:

*attend tasting/pay deposit for caterer (Jan 9th)

*envision/complete invites, response cards and order (Dec 31st)

    *interview/book DJ

*make appt. for cake baker/pay deposit

*envision/decide/book suit purchase/tux rentals for groomsmen

    *book honeymoon

*block out rooms at hotel for guests

    *book our rooms

These are just the things I'm behind on. Sigh.

Ok. I'm kind of scared to begin this list... But here it goes.

    - get a finalized list to my MOH for bridal shower (easy enough)
    - get FI,GM,FOB measured for tuxes (luckily have them picked out already)
    - make invites... and then address them and send them out
    - find a new photographer! (ours just pulled out on us)
    - make an appointment for hair trial with my sylist
    - book our hotel for night-of
    - make our reservations for mini-honeymoon right after wedding
    - tell baker what flavors/design for cake we want
    - meet with dj... figure out music
    - OH I DON'T KNOW... PLAN ENTIRE CEREMONY? (seriously... I've thought very little about this :/ I don't even know where to begin!)
    - finish registering
    - meet with reception coordinator and pick out linens/other decor.
    - make favors/name cards (have everything for them... just haven't started on them)
    - finalize what we want to do with decor in the reception venue (we have so much stuff... yet no real plan on where to put some of it)
    - evidently start meditation... as I am freaking out over this list!

Reading all your lists made me have to add more stuff to my list that I forgot. LOL Now I have even more to do. I'm ready to get on it now that the holidays are over though. I warned FI that he's about to get bombarded with wedding stuff.

Just crossed off bridesmaids dresses from my list today. Now just hair, makeup, jewelry, gifts, readings, menu planning, and more to go....
  • Options
I have quite a bit to do yet. My bridesmaids recently backed out (one is expecting and the other leaves for Peace Corp in Feb.). So I must find new bridesmaids, finalize the reception menu, finish selecting a photographer, select music for reception and ceremony... It all seems overwhelming!

So happy to have crossed a few of the other big items though!

    I have ordered my invites/RSVP cards...caterer/DJ/Cake next!

We still need to select the cake, florist, and photographer; reserve a block of hotel rooms for guests,  book our honeymoon, and do a gift registry. We have a friend who has offered to design for the invitations, so we need to give her more details. Oh and we need to make a playlist for background music for our cocktail party reception. And bridesmaids need to find dresses--they're buying a dress that they like (and can wear again) that simply uses our color. But we have the church/pre-cana, reception, food selections, dress (needs alterations yet), tuxes, rings, and guest list done.

Ugh I am so stressed about everything that part of me is just ready to pay the extra to hire someone else to figure it out! I like to think I've finished a lot of bigger things (venue, dress, cake, registry, honeymoon, hotel block, photographer, grooms tux) but still feels like there is so much left! Here is my list:

Find caterer and decide on menu

    Flowers & centerpieces

Decide on rehearsal dinner location and menu

    Finalize ceremony details with officiant

    Pick out bridesmaid dresses

    Decide on invitations

Pay deposit for DJ and decide on music (both ceremony and reception)

Find stylist and schedule hair trail

Get dance lessons scheduled (we’re doing a waltz for our first dance)

Figure out shoes, veil, and jewelry

    Get passport

Figure out who is singing or playing in our ceremony (person we asked backed out)

    Write vows

    Get groom’s ring engraved

    Figure out bridesmaid gifts

Right now I'm focusing on the caterer and figuring out invitations - which I'm making myself so I don't have a ton of time to get them done! My MOH has yet to mention anything about a shower but she just had a baby right before Christmas so I'm sure her mind is on other things. I just hope she doesn't wait until the last minute.
