Total Experiences

Hello J I am getting married June 21, 2013 at Caesar’s Palace.  I recently contacted Total Experiences to set up a room block at Caesars and Harrah's.  I noticed that the rates they gave me are around $20-$30 more a night then if I booked through the regular Caesars reservations.  I called them back up and they said the price they quoted me was a fair price.  The lower prices I am seeing is because Caesar’s has different promotions in different states. The discounted prices do not reflect promotions.  It still sounds fishy to me, why would I have my guests book through group bookings when they can reserve rooms online or over the phone for a better price? Has anyone dealt with Total Experiences before?  Is this normal?

Re: Total Experiences

  • This happens sometimes, groups are more to lock in a number of rooms for those last minute bookers. Right now the prices on line may be better but about a month out they will be way.more :-) hope this helps

  • Room blocks are definitely never the cheapest option; the purpose of a room block is to *guarantee* that the number of rooms in your block are available up until the date the block expires, so they charge a premium for that.  The room block's only real purpose is to give your lazier guests up until 30 days prior to book their rooms and not be told we're sold out, even if the website shows the hotel as sold out.  When we got married in 2011 I think the coupon codes on smartervegas for Mandalay resulted in a nearly $75/night savings on the base room compared to our room block rate.

  • Its still a good idea to get a room block cos sometimes hotel rates go crazy in Vegas. Just make sure you are not contracted to fill every room on your block.

  • Thank you everyone!  This is my first time room blocking anything and I was so confused with how the whole process works.  Thank you for clearing it up. Thankfully, I am not held liable for any of the rooms that are not filled. So, I am keeping the room blocks for those last minute bookers :).

  • If you are getting married at Caesars, they should also give you a code for your guests to use that will give them 10% off at any Caesars property. However, the majority of the guests at my wedding found much better deals by booking through Expedia or other websites.

We booked with MGM resorts (M Life) and we booked our blocked our rooms with Aria. Originally they offered me 18% off in July 2013 for our May wedding. Since than t has gone up to about 28% off because a UFC fight is happening at MGM Grand the same weekend. I found total rewards didn't give us much of a discount so I called/emailed around a lot until I found rates I liked.

  • I would definitely make sure you are not obligated to fill rooms and can cancel.   As a frequent visitor to Vegas I can tell you if you are not staying in a convention hotel you can do a lot better on your own.   I spoke to the Rosanna at MGM and she said they don;t even do room blocks for weddings anymore for that exact reason.
