weather in St. Lucia in September

Has anyone visited St. Lucia in the end of August/beginning of September? I know that it is a rainforest island, I'm just wondering how much rain they get per day that time of year. We will be staying at the northwestern tip of the island at the Sandals Grande. Also, if anyone has stayed on that part of the island, can you tell me what the beaches are like? I've heard that they have black sand and dark water due to the volcanoes, but the pictures I see look different. I would love to hear someone first hand experience!
Thank you!,

  • I'm going to the same place, around the same time actually! (August 25-Sept 1). So I would like to hear this as well!
  • i would only caution that that is the beginning of hurricane season, so if you choose to go then, get trip insurance just to be safe.

I was just at the Grande in December.  The beach is really nice, but it's not black sand.  It's regular sand.  Looks like your standard Caribbean beach.  Water is clear, but not an unusual color.  You can probably take a day trip excursion to volcanic beaches from the resort - they offer a ton of excursions (which do cost extra).

  • Actually, true hurricane season is June 1-Nov 30. However, the Caribbean tends to be most affectedAugust-October. Regardless, purchase insurance, enjoy the trip, and if in the off chance there is some hurricane activity near your travel dates, the insurance will cover your loss and allow you to reschedule or travel to a different destination at that time.

  • jkantorski I am going those same dates! Thanks for the info about the weather, and beaches delujm0 and Jells2dot0! Does anyone know anything about trip insurance? I'm assuming you get it through a travel agent, right? Is it expensive? I agree that is definitely worth it, just looking for more info. Thanks!
  • We've been to the grande twice(last time was March 2012). In the link above my siggy pic (our website) you will find a ton of pics and two reviews. The beach at the grande is man made (sand was brought in to make it prettier) so it is normal "Caribbean" sand.

  • If you are booking with an agent, they will offer insurance. If you are booking it on your own, check out insuremytrip.com. They have a ton of policies to choose from! Price will vary depending on coverage and the total cost of your trip, however cancel for any reason insurance with strong coverage will run you around the $110-$150pp range.

My mom is a travel agent so she puts insurance on all my trips through Allianz Global. You can get it on their website. The cost depends on the cost of the trip but mine have always been between $80-150 per person. This also covers if you go zip lining and break your leg or something, it covers your hospital there and if necessary life flights to hospitals in the US. Your standard health insurance usually does not cover anything out of the country.

  • Great! Thanks for all the information!! :)
  • Well I guess I'll see you there! :)
  • We honeymooned there in the beginning of October.  The weather was GORGEOUS!!!  It was high 80's all week.  One morning it rained, but stopped by 8:30ish.  We would occasionally get an afternoon shower, but they honestly lasted no more than 15 minutes and they were needed!!!
