Need help with finding someone to marry us!

My guy and I decided we were just going to go to the courthouse to get married. We don't have the money for a big traditional wedding and all we really care about is being married to one another. I called our district judge, we live in Bridgeport Pa, and they said he's currently not marrying anyone. So I expanded our search (to the areas close by: Norristown Pa, King Of Prussia Pa, Conshohocken Pa) and started calling in neighboring cities and keep getting shot down. The judges that will marry won't marry us because we don't live in their jurisdiction. I'm at a loss as to what to do now. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Having a friend get ordained online isn't actually legal in Pennsylvania. However, PA does have self-uniting licenses, so you don't need an officiant at all. You just need two witnesses. When you go to pick up your marriage license, just request a self-uniting license.
  • Contact Journeys of the Heart and see if they can help. We loved our officiant, Maria Odilia Romeu, and the lady we first talked to was very willing to help. Maybe they have a solution.
  • Thanks for the ideas!
  • We self-united. It is the most affordable option-all you do is pay for the license, and then after a 3 day waiting period, declare yourselves married in whatever way you see fit, in front of at least two witnesses, sign the license, and mail it in. We got our license in Chester County and didn't have any issues getting the self-uniting license. Some counties in PA are assholes about granting them.
