Invite Question

I know the invitations must match the formality of my wedding but must they match my wedding colors? I am having a hard time fnding formal wedding invites I like in my colors. The last few wedding invites I received did match their wedding colors.

Re: Invite Question

  • They don't have to match your wedding colors at all. Most try to though. My wedding invites are DIY and are plain white with a lace pouch that holds everything together. I did use my colors as the font color though.

  • Nope, they don't need to match. The most formal wedding invitations are plain white or cream paper with black ink.

That's good. A follow up, should the STD match the invites? I found invitations I like but I don't like the matching STD. My wedding isn't super formal, but the ceremony is in a church and reception is in an hotel ballroom with a wedding band instead of DJ.
  • Nope. I printed our STD's before I even had a clue what our wedding/invitations would look like. Definitely don't have to match.

  • I don't think your STD need to match your invites. H and I designed our own STD and invites but we did the STD before we really started work on the invites so all they had in common were colours. No one seemed to notice.

  • We had already chosen our invites when we sent out STDs and they look nothing alike. We wanted something more fun and casual for the STDs, so we chose a couple of fun pictures from our engagement shoot and put those on, as opposed to the more serious, posed shots.

  • Nope. Our STDates didn't match our invites didn't match our wedding colours.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Our STD's won't be matching the invites.  We haven't purchased our invites yet but we know what we want.  The invites will be matching our wedding colors and the formality of the event.

  • Our STDates happened to match the invites, but only because I had a reaaaaaaaaaaaaally clear picture of what I wanted our invitations to look like going into it. Fortunately, my invites were custom designed by a friend who designs wedding invitations.

As far as matching colors, not needed. One thing my designer suggested that I thought was silly (and I guess this is something that's done?) was that the color of the invitation paper (white vs off-white/cream) should match the color of my dress.
