Thank goodness for this site..

...instead of constantly checking my email waiting to hear back from PhD programs, I have been learning all about wedding etiquette! It has been very helpful looking at real advice! Jk though, still checking emails =(

I am new here! Engaged this past November to awesome FI; wedding is planned for August 15, 2015. I know, "long engagement," but we are saving for what we really love: a vineyard wedding. Large Italian/Irish/Puerto Rican family = about 165 people. Put deposit on vineyard and caterer this past week; meeting with a photographer on Saturday. After that I don't think we need to do anything else until this time next year! Unless I am missing something important..please let me know.

About me: I am super short and dreading looking for dresses. I can't stand doing things for the sake of tradition (no engagement pics, no something old borrowed blue, no veil, no bouquet toss....etc). I love tacos. I was not made for winter.

Looking forward to hearing more about everyone's weddings and possibly stealing your awesome ideas.

  • Congrats!!!
  • Welcome!  When you go to look for wedding dresses, check with your consultant about only having dresses that can be measured "hollow to hem" pulled.  This will make the dress proportional to you, from their sample.  I would think most designers do this.  This is how they measured my vertically challenged SIL.
  • Welcome and congrats!

  • Greetings and salutations!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Hi congrats!! I just got engaged in October and I'm the same as you- not doing bridal shower, engagement pics, bouquet toss, veil or a lot of other things that I find super pointless. Are you east coast vineyards or west coast?

  • Thank you guys for such a sweet welcome!!

@oliveoilsmom - see, I did not know this. I will definitely ask about that. I have a ways to go until I think about a dress but I am kind of dreading it.

    @doeudo terrific gif.

@jenna8984 - we are located in CT! Vineyards aren't as well established here (they usually import grapes from CA to mix with our own) but they are very cute, and we both have a preference for huge open pieces of land

Wish I had some pets to share with you. Just a fish named Abigail
  • Nice! I live in MA so I've heard great things about the vineyards in CT! I wish I liked wine lol

  • Welcome!  Sounds like you have a really good handle on planning.  Will you need a band or DJ?  I would see that as another big vendor to check off when you can - and good ones fill up quick.

When our last DD got married back in May '09, we booked her photographer in Feb '08, and he only had 2 dates left for all of '09!  Crazy stuff in the wedding world.

Anyhoo - welcome and I love tacos too!

  • I'm getting married in the Napa area of CA (I'm going to Yountville)!

Just got engaged in Dec and I'm also passing a lot of traditional stuff, but my wedding will only have 8 guests!

Congrats! Have fun with the planning, so exciting!
