Help!!

Ok so i recently moved to a new city to live with my fiance. I'm now over 2 & half hours away from the majority of my friends and family. 5 of my 6 bridesmaids live back home and one lives in North Carolina (mind you im in Ohio) Im afraid that some of them arent going to take this seriously and make it very difficult for me when it comes to planning. How can i ask them if they are going to follow through before i make any plans considering dresses and other things without offending them??

Why would you think they wouldn't take it seriously and follow through? Are they normally flaky people?

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

All they have to do is show up in the dress on the day of the wedding.  How would they make it very difficult when it comes to planning?  Am I missing something?
  • I'm confused. I've been a long distance bridesmaid a couple of times. It's not a big deal.

Both times, the brides just picked a dress that I could find somewhere local. I ordered the dress, I made travel arrangements to be there the wedding weekend, and I showed up. Of course we chatted about wedding stuff casually in between there, but that's about it.

  • All but one of my BMs was OOT. To make everything easier on them, I choose a color and let them pick their own dresses. Everyone showed up day of in a dress of the right color. What else are you expecting yours to do? If you think they are too flakey to show up / get a dress why would you be friends with them in the first place?

  • Why do you think they're not going "to take it seriously"? What does that mean exactly? All they have to do is get a dress and show up the day of.
  • 4 out of my 5 bridesmaids are out of state and it hasn't been a problem at all. I picked a designer that is carried by many retailers nationwide and told them to pick one of many styles that designer offered in a particular color/length. They all ordered and should be receiving their dresses this month. Not inconvenient at all.
  • I don't understand the problem.  Are you worried that your friends won't travel for your wedding?  It could happen, but 2.5 hours isn't a big deal.
  • I have 6 BM: one is 16 hours away, the other 5 are 12 hours away.  None of us have a problem with this.  Considering they're my closest friends, the distance between us is irrelevant.  We went dress shopping together (except one, the one further away) the last time I was in my home state, but that's really all I expect them to do is buy a dress.  We went to David's intentionally since they're all over the country.

My MOH also made a FB private group for all the members of the BP so that they can chat together about whatever they want (shoes is their current topic-I said they can wear any nude shoe they want so they're bouncing ideas off each other and sharing links).  I really love that she did this for all of us so all the girls can get to know each other better (2 I've known forever, 1 is my SIL, 2 are my best friends from work, 1 is my future SIL).
