Linen Dilemma

So, because I have to make things more difficult than they need to be, I decided to craft our own table linens.

To rent, we'd be paying $120 for delivery alone. Actual tablecloth prices start at $12 each, and that's for your basic, low-quality polyester. If I'm going to pay to replace the white polyester ones the venue provides, I at least want a quality upgrade.

I couldn't find anything I liked in a suitable colour for less than $24 a tablecloth. We only need 5 rounds and a couple of rectangles, but still.

Then I saw a picture of layered tulle over a banquet table on Google and I was hooked! I convinced FI that I wanted tulle layers, and we ordered enough grey tulle to do 3 layers over the white tablecloth on each of the 5 rounds (they didn't have enough available to do the rectangular tables, too).

I still need to get more for the rectangles, but now I'm also wondering how I'm going to get layers of tulle put on the tables on the day of. I only have one attendant (my MOH/sister), and I need her getting ready with me. I also don't want to have to ask my mum to do it because I don't want her to have to worry about helping out with that stuff -- it's kind of a special day for her, too.

The venue has staff and an Events Director, but I don't know if it's over-and-above to ask them to do it, and I hate being that bride who tries their patience by asking them to do a million little things that are beyond their job description (I also have a fear that they'll think I'm silly for asking and laugh and say no, even though they're all so nice).

Finally, my two best friends have both offered to help with anything I need before and during the wedding, but I hate the idea of having my guests help decorate, and having to get there super early.

Also, a DOC is way out of budget because they cost $1000 and up around here.

Help?

Re: Linen Dilemma

  • Dont know if this will help, efavormart.com sells tableclothes for cheap. They also give lots of discounts and always have deals. I think for what I want will be about 200 for 12 round table clothes, roughly 110 chair covers, and same amount for sashes. Free shipping since the orders over 100.
  • @dluberts I've considered buying, but then there's the hassle of having to iron them and fold/roll them so they don't wrinkle. Plus, we've already spent a fair amount of money on the tulle and FI tends to be fairly... frugal... especially with the wedding budget and little 'extras'.

  • I'm not ironing, just gonna throw in dryer with wet towel to steam out wrinkles. Works great!!! I'll do that day before right before we go to set up the hall. I wish i had more advice from you, maybe Ill think of something later
  • I would ask your venue. If they are setting up the tables anyways I don't think it would be too much work for them to put them on. I asked my venue about setting up my centerpieces and they said they wouldn't put them together for me (not that I expected them to), but anything that I had to set on the tables they would set it all up for me. It would be worth it to ask them. I also ended up hiring a woman that I know to handle some things like that for me on the day of. She isn't a DOC as her job, but that's basically what she'll be acting as. I wanted to get someone that I could trust and I didn't really click with any of the DOC's in my area.
