Need help with theme please!

Originally, I had planned to have a vintage-book theme. We're getting married in a firehouse and there are a lot of reds so we're going to have red and a pop of tiffany blue because it's a summer wedding. I had thought I would purchase a lace gown, but instead I fell in love with this whimsical dress. However, I wanted to relate something from the dress to the wedding. The pieces of fabric remind me of butterflies or bird feathers. Butterflies, on the other hand, hold sentimental value to me. So now I'm thinking maybe I'll through in a few butterflies (white & book page butterflies) here and there to bring it all together. Do you think this would work? Or is it too much? Thanks for your opinions! image

First, if the photo is the gown, well done, it is gorgeous!  Next, I think butterflies are a very romantic touch at a wedding.  There are tons of options, you can even get fondant butterflies on the cake.  As for too much, that is so relative.  What will make you happy?  That's enough.

Love the dress, omg you will just float around all day!

I would just caution you to be careful with "themes" and not to over do it, or it just becomes too much.  Firstly, the theme is marriage or wedding since that is what is going on ;-)

I personally think you have too many elements at the moment, that do not necessarily all coordinate- vintage, book, firehouse, butterflies.  Since your reception venue is a firehouse, I'd try to work with that and nix the vintage or book theme, but I would try and keep the butterflies in a subtle manner bc they have sentimental value to you.

Or, keep the vintage theme but not the book vibe of it,  and work in the butterflies.

Also, you may consider flipping your colors so that red is less predominate since it is already so dominate in your venue, KWIM?

    Good luck!

    Love the dress!

However, I am a firm believer that the only theme for a wedding should be love and marriage. Do you think you will still like the butterfly theme in 20 years?

If you do stick with a theme, I would make it very subtle.

    That's a pretty dress.

Not sure about the theme.  I agree with @KatWAG; keep it subtle if you use one.  I'd also pick one theme and not try to blend too many different elements together.

    All of this!

Keep the butterflies and then have your main colors be tiffany blue, white and pops of red (red anenomes would be amazing in your centerpieces...just saying).

Then to incorporate your butterflies you could have then very subtly on your invites like...http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/product/2010/signature_ecru_wedding_invitations_butterfly_love.html

And you could also use some orchids in your bouquets and centerpieces (along with the anenomes) since orchids have a butterfly look.

But don't go over the top with the butterflies but little touches here and there (like one or two stuck in the centerpieces, on the cake, the invites, maybe even the escort cards) will be very nice.

    I love those ideas!

Oh my goodness- y'all rock! I was thinking it may be too much. Thank you all! If anyone has anymore ideas, let me know :)

I definitely agree with PPs about using the blue as a main color with pops of red. If red is a predominant color in the venue, adding it to everything else may be overwhelming.

If you do have a theme, keep it subtle. If you have too much going on, no one will know what the theme is! I think if butterflies are important to you, use that. But again, subtlety is key.

The dress is gorgeous and the venue sounds amazing! It's going to be a beautiful day! Best wishes!

I love your dress. I think butterflies are very romantic and if your colors are red and Tiffany blue then use white butterflies w a little sparkle such as red glitter or a Tiffany blue glitter. They will not only be romantic but also elegant and add them here and there so that everything will tie in together and not over shine anything else.
