Downtown Dallas Ceremony location

My fiance and I are in need of a ceremony location in downtown Dallas. We are both Christian, but of different denominations. I am having trouble finding a church that will marry us without us being affiliated with their specific church. We live 3 hours out of town, so it is not an option to join any of the churches in downtown. Does anyone know of any chapels that are not affiliated with a church we could use? ANY advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Downtown Dallas Ceremony location

  • J and I found the Church that we were married in on rentmychurch.com , no joke. We did have to pay extra since we were not members, but it will be that way with almost any Church. We were also required to meet with the Pastor twice leading up to our wedding day, so be sure to ask about any specific requirements that the Church may have since any meetings may be difficult due to your distance. Chapels may be a bit different, but then you will need to secure an officiant as well. Love Notes is very popular on the boards for officiants who are not affiliated with any particular Church.

Based on the issues that we had in securing a Church, I always will urge brides to have the ceremony location locked in before securing a reception venue. We didn't and it could have cost us over $4K just because I didn't 100% confirm with my church that the date and time I discussed with the Church administrator. Hello, unnecessary stress. Good luck!

  • Perkins Chapel at SMU was $1800 in 2010-2011, and they have three slots per day for weddings (they don't necessarily fill them all, so I don't think you have to worry about feeling rushed), but they don't do weddings on home game days.  I've been to two weddings there, and it was actually our second choice for our wedding because SMU is where DH and I met.  Gorgeous, gorgeous location.

  • Also, are you members at churches in your hometown?  Would someone travel to marry you?  I ask because chapels that are unaffiliated with churches would require you to find an officiant.

Andplusalso, you should definitely talk to officials at your home churches for suggestions or recommendations.  Maybe your pastor knows a pastor who would help you, or something?

  • Perkins Chapel is the only one that comes to mind.  http://www.smu.edu/Perkins/Chapel/Weddings

It is 1800, and I guess 50% is refundable.  If you are wanting a Fall wedding, they don't do them on SMU football home game days. It is beautiful....and yes, you'd need an officiant (the fee covers the organist, though).

If you can swing coming a few times for premarital counseling with a pastor, look into Oak Lawn United Methodist Church and/or First United Methodist Church (on Ross).  We were married at Oak Lawn and are also not the same denomination (but both Christian) or members.  They did a superb job and it was a wonderful experience.  We did do premarital counseling with our pastor.  Pretty sure the requirements at First UMC are the same.

    Good luck!

My fiance and I looked at several churches in Dallas all were very nice

Royal Lane Baptist Church (includes organist, looks like Perkins bigger sister because of the Williams-burg architecture.)

East Dallas Christian Church (charges the most but includes, security, organist, pew bows, communion - bread to break for just the bride and groom)

Grace Methodist Church (just down the street from EDCC, if you're looking for a smaller church with lots of character for outside and inside photos)
