Happ MLK day!

Is everyone off doing fun stuff?  How was the weekend?  DH ended up having to work today so it's my normal Monday.  Except the washing machine won't drain and I can't fix it myself.

We had a decent weekend.  Saturday was a farmer's market and granite store.  Sunday the ILs took the older kids to a movie so we went back to the granite store and Menard's.  We have a million decisions to make, but need the countertop before we proceed much further.

This is the ultimate FWP: Only one stupid granite store is open on Sundays.  I was going to go to one today, but it's closed today too.  General operating hours for almost all are 10-4:30 during the week so DH can't go after work and he doesn't generally have a long enough lunch hour.  Kids aren't allowed in the granite yards so unless I get a sitter I can't slip over during the day.  I hate to get a sitter just to see if it's worth getting a sitter to go back.

Actually, the ultimate FWP: FIL is paying for the remodel.  He gets discounts and negotiates all sorts of stuff.  He won't tell us what we've spent.  We are trying very hard to be reasonable, but he just says "you only do this once and it's my checkbook."  We just don't want to take advantage of his generosity!

Re: Happ MLK day!

  • Can you call the granite stores and see if you can make an appointment to come in after hours?  It would be worth a shot.

Our weekend was nice.  My parents were supposed to come up for DD1's basketball game, but they experienced whiteout conditions on the interstate so they turned around and went home.  I was a little bummed, but really glad they decided to head back.  It's just not worth ending up in the ditch.

Saturday night the kids went to the ILs while DH and I went to a trivia night with some friends.  I forgot how much I hate those things.  They drag on FOR.EV.ER.  We all made a pact to never do one again.  We'll just send in our money as a donation and play Scene It or Catchphrase at home.

Yesterday DH and I had a netflix marathon until the kids came home.  It was grand.
  • Friday: DH worked super late and the kiddo was sleeping over at a friend's house.  DefConn and I went to my parents for dinner.

Saturday: DefConn woke up about 2:45am and never really went back to sleep.  And neither did I.  We did some shopping and then hung out the rest of the night.

Sunday: We woke up and went to Lowe's to get paint.  DH and the kiddo painted our bathroom.  After they were done, I went shopping and it sucked.  I couldn't find anything I liked.  I need a shirt for DH's work party this weekend. Luckily I'm off Thursday and Friday this week.  I'm hoping I'll have better shopping karma those days.

DH had a flat this morning, so he just left for work.  I'm sure that means he's not going to be home until 9pm or something.

YAY for free kitchen remodel!!!  I used to work in a place like the granite stores- companies like that are more open for contractors, retailers and designers, not really for the public (retail sales don't really make up the bulk of their sales, it's a pretty small fraction).  They'll sell to the public because they'll take any money they can get, but they don't have hours really condusive to that.  My old showroom was 7-4:30 M-F, 9-1 on Saturday.  And Saturday was really only for the retail customers.

Our weekend was great.  We ran errands on Saturday, then had a few friends and their two kids over for steak and Cards Against Humanity.  They had never played before so they were dying.  DH ended up keeping the 5 year old occupied most of the time, but he didn't mind because they played Minecraft and DH doesn't care for CAH.

Sunday, we went to our friends' son's 1st birthday party.  DS was the size of the 4 month old there, who's parents thought she was big.  HAHAHA!  Which now has me planning DS's party on a secret board on Pinterest, because it's too shameful to make your 3 month old's 1st birthday party public.  And I'm crazy.  I want to do a monster theme.  It's probably a good thing I thought about it now, because when I realized the size of DH's family, I'm going to have to start saving now..

Then we went to BRU for crazy clearance sales and came home to watch Downton Abbey.  THEN DS SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!

To top it off, I"m officially a size smaller than pre-pg!  I bought jeans from the Gap!  I haven't done that since we got married.

    Yay to all of this!
  • Yeah, no day off for me :-/

Weekend was busy. Got Billy Joel tix and circus tix for DD's birthday. DD's classmate had a birthday on Sat, we went to that. It's nice with DD being the age she is, you really don't need to "help play" or be perpetually underfoot anymore. Good chance to talk with the other parents. DD got a helium balloon from the party, which promptly flew out of the car with a cross breeze. Oh the sad sad howling heartbreak and crying. We felt bad, so we got her another one.

The rest of the time was a lot of running around for errands, party stuff, toy organizers. And I actually started AND finished a sewing project. It was just a few pillows, but dang it, they got done.

Now, it's working on a seminar I'm supposed to give to my side of the company on Wed. Yay!!! :-p

  • We survived. My in laws didn't drive us crazy, the party was awesome, everyone loved the photo booth and we're sorry impressed we/husband built the whole thing, and the did was excellent. We didn't end up with tremendous amounts of leftover food considering how few RSVP's we got. And baby girl got all sorts of neat toys and clothes

I am washing the birthday girl's birthday outfit now to take her official 1 year old pics this afternoon before I nap for work. This week should be relatively laid back which I am beyond ready for.
  • Yeah, I'm at work. We're at thirteen days on our honeymoon countdown though, so I'm happy.

Husband bought the fourth season of Archer last week, so we're pretty much as up to date on the series as we can be without having cable. I've also decided to dress as Pam on Halloween and am trying to think of the best way to get that stanza from The Destruction of Sennacherib on my back for the costume.

  • I slept, did homework, and applied for jobs. So nothing fun, but no classes. Working on making fudge for a guy at my work/school who just had a baby. :)

Off topic, but MLK day is a sore subject at home. My FI's dad works on research with a government group and he doesn't get Veterans Day off anymore (he was drafted to 'Nam and injured). Instead of Veterans Day they get MLK day and he is super grumpy every MLK day and always takes a sick day for Veterans Day.
