My boyfriend does not want to wear a tux for our wedding, unless it has "the penguin tale" as he calls it. He wants to wear a suit that he can personalize. While I'll be in a traditional wedding dress, my boyfriend is not into the traditional look and he will be personally modifying his attire. For that reason, we need to be able to purchase whatever he chooses, and our budget is limited. Does anyone have ideas or stores we should check out to buy inexpensive suits?

Re: Options for buying attire for the men

  • Department stores. Most of them run sales fairly often. When is your wedding? If you have time I would watch them for good deals around Easter and other upcoming holidays
  • The wedding is the last weekend in June. So after Easter is a good time? Thank you. I didn't know when sales typically occur for men's clothing.

I know tuxedos are expensive, but if you know of a discount option for that, please let me know. He may just wear the jacket of a suit or tux with black jeans.
  • tj maxx or marshalls

  • Great, thank you.
  • Ask a tux rental store they sell too. The one in my neighborhood does a sale in March or April.
  • Thank you again. A tux jacket is what he would prefer, we were just worried about the cost. But buying one that was a former rental might be perfect for us. Then he could sew patches and have his tail.
  • Try men's warehouse online too. My FI and I are going super casual the guys will be in khakis and camp shirts and I found a smoking deal on 100% silk camp shirts - bogo and all subsequent shirts where 1/2 off.....unfortunately my FI decided he wanted a darker color blue so we ended up returning them but they were really nice quality shirts regularly $80-90 and after the sale price were $25/each.

  • I hope I do not offend by saying this, but what about a Goodwill store?  You may be surprised by what you can find there. TJ Maxx is also a good option.
  • That doesn't offend me. I don't typically shop for clothes at Goodwill, but I've bought several household items there a few years ago when I moved out on my own. My boyfriend is wanting to sew patches on his clothing and make it more to his taste. We certainly don't want to do that on something expensive. I'm sure his family doesn't love the idea of him doing that and they'd rather that he rent a tux and go out it more traditionally. Since he isn't going to do that, we don't care where he finds an outfit, as long as it works for him.

    Thanks.
  • If he plans to wear it a lot, go nicer... But if it's a one- time only wearing, try H&M. The quality isn't amazing but it will be cheaper.

  • I haven't heard of H&M but I'll certainly look it up.
  • I love TJ Maxx, I would definitely look there. Also, Macy's and JC Penney have good sales. Just keep your eyes open for sales and check the weekly ads, I'm sure you can find some good deals.
