When should I send out Save The Dates?

I live in Florida and my fiancé and I are planning on a Las Vegas wedding on 09/01/2014, when should we send out save the dates?

    Now. :-)

    My wife sent STD's at one year, and invites in January for a June wedding with two months to reply; to ensure guests had more than enough time to price shop flights and hotels.

    Sticking with this thread... Generally when do you tell guests they must RSVP by? A month before the date? Now I'm second guessing our timeline.. We are 3/28/2015, planning to send STD in July and invitations in November. Lots of OOT guests. Help?

    We kept our RSVP deadline the same as usual, since the caterers/restaurants usually only need 1-2 weeks' notice. 

    Our caterers needed to know by October 16, so I made our RSVP deadline October 9. That way, I had a week to wait for stragglers (some RSVPs arrived on the 10th and 11th) and then called guests who hadn't replied yet. We only had to call a couple of people. Most people replied by the end of August, since they already had their plane tickets and hotel reservations.

    Our timeline was this:

    October 31st - sent STDs
    July 26th-ish - sent invitations
    October 9th - RSVP deadline
    October 26th - wedding

    We live in Australia and our guests will be travelling to Vegas from all around the world, so we are sending out our 'Save the Dates' in the next month for our wedding in April next year! I think we'll send out invites in Jan next year!

    @jixxt im an Aussie too and our guests loved the save the dates a year in advance! We sent the formal invites 6 months out which was probably a bit too early. I think your idea of January is excellent.

    We sent our save the dates 6 months in advance and formal invites 3 months in advance!
    Our wedding day also marks our 11th anniversary of being together :)
