  For truly single guests, you do not need to give them an 'and guest'.  Just address it to 'Mr. John Smith'.

  What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  No, you don't.  Just address the invitation to them individually.  If they try to write in a date, call them and explain that the invitation was just for them.

   We gave everyone an option of 'and guest.' Definitely not something you have to do though! Especially if your guest list is tight! I'd say skip it!
