    Whyyyyy do people feel the need to show off with proposals? My FI proposed when not another soul was around on a walk.  The privacy/intimacy is what makes it special! You lose that with a crowd.

    I could never do something like that. FI and I had discussed how, should he ever choose to do some kind of big, flashy, public proposal, I would automatically say no because all I would want to do at that moment is run and hide.

    I mean, hey, if it's your thing and that's what you want, I'm cool with it. It doesn't take away from MY proposal experience. I have friends who actually won their e-ring through a contest sponsored by a local jewelry store. They had to do all of these crazy tasks and get the highest score out of all the teams PLUS find the ring hidden in a cake using only their mouths. It was totally them, though.

    we had one that appears to have been in some way sponsored by a mall. everyone thought the huge show and proposal was adorbs (GAG) i told my Fi I LOVED out night sail across the bay just us and the captain :) no flashy public proposal for me I would be super embarrased

    FI proposed on a Tuesday night in our living room. It was perfect for us. Once, a few months before, we were downtown and ran across a flashmob proposal. FI thought it was super lame. I think they're pretty AWish, myself. It's the commercialism of the sponsored proposal that really gets me, though. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To each their own, I guess.

    I mean, I get someone going to maybe their SO's parents or friends and saying "hey, I want to make this really special, any ideas?" But do people actually hire someone to orchestrate their engagement??

     Screw that, they bombard us with manipulative advertisements nearly constantly, I don't need my friggin proposal to be a giant advertisement.  Ew.

    ugh terrible!!! ....butttttttttttt as an Advertising and Sponsorship Sales Manager I can appreciate/terrifies me when i see new ideas...especially things that wouldn't cross my mind...
