Non-Traditional Cake Cutting

My fiance and I are having cupcakes for our wedding. We are also having a 6 inch cake to top off the "cupcake tree." I'm opposed to the traditional cake cutting because I think the pictures of the groom helping the bride cut the cake are outdated and boring. We are still entertaining the idea of cutting the cake but I'm leaning more towards us cutting the cake at the same time but with separate knifes. Do any of you have any ideas of an interesting way to do this or know of any unique knifes we could use?

Thanks!

Re: Non-Traditional Cake Cutting

  • Just feed each other cupcakes without a "cutting."
  • Wait - so you want to cut a cake, but you don't want to cut a cake together?

But yeah, maybe just have small pieces set aside ready to go that you'll feed each other. Or just skip the entire cake-cutting.

  • I like Jen4948's idea, and that way you can save the top for the first anniversary.
  • We're doing cupcakes as well - we're just going to cut a cupcake.  I think that if you don't cut the cake, feeding a piece to each other might be a little strange.  I'd suggest doing it completely or just skipping it.
  • Um use a samurai sword?

But really there is no "unique" or "non-traditional" way to cut a cake.  If you want to cut the cake together but not holding the same knife then just each have a knife and cut the cake so that when you are finished you cut a wedge.  That way you are cutting separately but still coming together to make one piece.

  • We're doing cupcakes also but completely skipping the cake cutting/feeding each other cake tradition.
