Chalkboard paint

I am using plastic cups for my reception and was thinking how much i hated the whole losing your cup cause yours looks like everyone elses. Even though these are clear plastic throw away cups  i was thinking about dipping the lower half in chalk board paint so if you wanted to write your name you could. Yea or nah was also planning on doing this with my guests champagne flutes. thoughts and suggestions please

Re: Chalkboard paint

  • Um, why not just put out some sharpies so that the guests could write their names on the plastic? Would save you from wasting a lot of time dipping god only knows how many plastic cups.  Or just buy enough cups so that if a guest does lose their cup then can just get a new one.

  • I haven't tried anything like that, but I wonder how well that would help on a flimsy plastic cup. Like if you squeeze the cup is the paint going to crack?

Eh, I think the writing of your name on your cup should be kept to house parties and keggers, not weddings.

Again, if you have enough glasses then I wouldn't worry about the whole "losing your drink" thing.  I mean when I go to weddings with actual glass glassware no one is writing their names on those so I really don't see the difference.

  • Just buy a lot of them so people can get new ones if they need them.
  • DIY personalized stir sticks. I think I saw a template on www.weddingchicks.com, the idea was to use them as escort cards as well.
  • I dispose of a plastic cup after using it.  I can't imagine plastic cups at a wedding but if that's the route you've decided to go I'd buy enough that guests don't feel like they have to hold onto theirs the whole time.  I've worked with chalkboard paint several times and dipping cups into it just seems like a lengthy project and creating more work for yourself.
  • Won't the chalk rub off onto hands though?
