Wedding Party

Dispersed bridal party and associated challenges

While I'm not a fan of the traditional bachelorette party (being dressed up in a tiara and bar hopping), I'd like to do something small but meaningful with my bridesmaids before my wedding.  This is complicated by the fact that my wedding will be Atlanta (my home town), but I live in Boston and each of my bridesmaids lives in another city, none of which is Atlanta (Gainesville, Santa Barbara, Iceland, Raleigh, and Chattanooga).  With budget constraints, I don't think a weekend get-together prior to the wedding weekend will be possible, so I'm looking for an idea of something we could do in the few days before the wedding, when all the ladies will be in Atlanta anyway.  I've considered a spa day, but I'm not sure that's what I want.  I'd love to hear y'alls creative ideas and thoughts!

  • I'm not a bar hopping fan either. I think my girls are just going to get together at my MOH's house and do a game night. Maybe a lingerie party or pure romance party. Everyone bring their favorite wine. Just hang out and have fun and cut up. Not really spending much money or getting super drunk.

  • Hadn't really thought about what to call it exactly, but I guess I'd have to go with more of a hangout.  I also don't want my ladies to stress about (and have to spend $) to plan a party for me that involves coordinating people from 6 different cities.  I'm all about being low-key and keeping things as low-stress as possible.

Also, I like sports, art, music, and history.
  • The High does martinis and jazz one Friday a month.  Fernbank does something similar with imax.  Depending on when your date falls, you could invite them out for some girl time if they are getting to town a few days before the wedding.

You could also just treat them to a spa or mani/pedi the day before in the afternoon.
  • My friend is getting married in a couple of months, and luckily I just moved within an hour of where she's having the wedding. 2 of the other maids are still back on the East coast, but we're planning to have them arrive Thursday (wedding is Saturday) so there's a day in between for recovery. At this point we're planning tapas/apps and drinks, then going to a burlesque show! That should be under $50/person. I'm hoping the barhopping will not be extensive since I barely drink anymore and will need to go to bed around 11.

My bride is also talking about a spa day, which will be great if we do it, but seriously one of them should plan something in the evening for you all to do, even if it is on a budget, and the spa day can be your thing to organize. That's what Facebook messaging is for, and email.
  • I'm not having a wedding party. But I just had a get together with some of my close friends. We had a tea party. Something like that might be fun.

My best friend went to downtown Chicago for a lunch cruise on the lake, saw a Cirque show and then later we went to a bar. That was about a month before her wedding.

Best of luck in planning things.

  • I am getting married in my hometown. I have a great group of local friends where I live, but my closest friends are very scattered. A couple of them have families and we all have hectic schedules. When my sister asked me about a bachelorette party, I was kind of against a big to-do. I spent my entire 20s at other people's weddings/parties and it gets hectic and expensive. We decided to ask the MVPs to arrive a day early and get our nails done, hang out at the pool and go to dinner. It is most important to me that we are all able to spend time together, so I don't even care if we actually go anywhere!

  • My best friend just had girls' night in. We went out to dinner together, went home, watched a wedding movie, drank just a few martinis, chatted, and basically had a slumber party. I'll be doing something similar. My 4 maids live in 4 different states, and I live in a 5th. So, it'll be travel, day of chilling and last-minute prep, then wedding day. That's why I'm going for low-key.
