Hawaii Cruise

Has anyone ever done Norwegian's Pride of America ship around the Hawaii islands?  My FI and I are thinking of this as a possibility because you can see multiple islands and save money on food!

I'd recommend checking out Cruise Critic. You can find a ton of reviews for specific ships and ports. We did a Southern Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon in October. It was perfect for us. I love to be busy with activities and see sights but my husband loves relaxing on the beach and pool so with the ports and days at sea, we both got what we liked. We're going on another cruise in November!

I just returned from a Hawaii cruise, but it was 17 days round trip from San Diego.  There have been mixed reviews on Norwegian's Hawaii cruise.  Because of the Jones Act, the ship, which is registered in the USA, must use USA staff, not the hard working Indonesian and Phillipino crews used by other lines that foreign ships use.  There have been a lot of complaints about service.  Norwegian does not have any formal nights, so you can pack light.  It should be a good cruise for a honeymoon.
PS.  Buy your Hawaiian souvenirs at local Walmarts.  They have special sections for mu-mus, t shirts and Hawaiian shirts for a lot less than touristy Hilo Hatties!  Cheaper macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, too.  That is where the crew shops.

Which cruise line do you usually travel on? I know you've been on a number of cruises...

We went on this cruise last July -- its actually when we got engaged, so obviously I have fond memories of the trip :)  I saw the reviews that a PP mentioned about lower quality service when I was researching before our trip, and honestly didn't find that to be the case -- I really can't remember anything that seemed like an issue with the staff.  This was my second cruise, the other being a Carnival cruise to the Bahamas so they did have the international staff and I think that while it is different both were still wonderful.  Honestly the biggest difference is that there is no casino, haha.  The food was generally very good, obviously it is a bit better in the nicer restaurants on the boat than the main restaurant but still yummy all around -- lots of seafood options and pineapple :)  Like most cruises, tons of on board activities.  My favorite places were Kona and Hilo on the Big Island and Kauai.  We were there in July and we did get to see the lava flow, although there wasn't a ton of activity, and cruising past the Napali Coast is breathtaking.  Other highlights -- Haleakala sunset, Waimea canyon, and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (where we got engaged).

Let me know if you have any questions!  Happy to provide input :)

I have been on 17 cruises.  Most of them were with Princess or Holland America, but remember, I'm a lot older than most ladies on this board.  Carnival wouldn't suit my style, which is "I'm on vacation!  Let me relax and read a book on my private balcony!"
