Destination Weddings Discussions

Ochos Rios, Jamaica!

We are officially booked for our seven night stay in Ochos Rios, Jamaica at the Grande Riviera! After many months of trying to figure out what type of wedding I wanted and who to invite I have decided to go the destination route. We have finally gotten somewhere in our planning and I am actually excited to plan again! We are getting married 5-15-15. Does anyone have any experience at this location? Any destination wedding advice? Anyone else not include other guests?

Re: Ochos Rios, Jamaica!

  • We got married at Sandals Montego Bay and it was amazing.  As far as I have heard Ochos Rios is amazing.  I wish you the best of luck!!  Some advice.  Do not stress it!  Your day will be amazing

  • I went to Ochos Rios in 2007 and loved it. The people are very nice, there is a lot to do, and I would go back in a heart beat. Enjoy yourself, Dunns Rivers Falls was one of my favorite excursions we went on.

  • Hi WishesComeTrue5, It sounds like you were having a tough time deciding to do a local versus destination wedding. I am in the Same boat and can't decide to get married locally or destination. We are getting married summer 2015. Can you give me some advice on how you decided to go destination?? Funny you picked Ocho Rios because that's top on my list too. Thanks.
  • I think I was having a hard time feeling like I needed to please everyone. I do not have any girl friends close enough to have any bridesmaids. We honestly would not have much of a wedding party. I was really having a hard time being excited about the planning process. People at work kept trying to offer me decorations, and I just was not excited. In the long run, I think that the traditional wedding format would have made me feel as though I was putting on a show for everyone. As of now we have no guests, and actually both still have to tell our parents, we are doing destination weddings. Hopefully, they all react well and understand, but we will see.

I really did not even consider a destination wedding until this past month, and we have been engaged since July 3rd 2013. Since officially booking I have actually been excited about the process again. We are both relieved that we have finally made a decision and that we know what we want now.

  • Furthermore, I would like to add that the planning process at the Sandals resorts seem to be so easy. We are likely going to be doing the free wedding and then adding on various photo packages and possibly the video. Because it is an all-inclusive resort, all food, snacks, and drinks are included. We are paying 4004.00 for seven nights and are in a butler level suite, so we have somebody to help take care of all of our needs. I think this must be the most relaxing way to plan a wedding.

  • @wishescometrue5 I am planning our wedding the same way only way to have my dream wedding on a budget. My mother is unable to attend this upset me ultimatly due to my father passing months after my engagement but at the end of the day what will make me happy is my wedding taking place on a Tropical Beach. I have planned a formal dinner the sunday before we leave (Thursday) our friends and family will be able to celebrate with us and give words of wisdom.
  • @Carters0908 Have you been checking to make sure that the price has not dropped?  I got the price dropped by 571.20 by calling them a few days ago after I noticed a price drop online. We are thinking that if Fiances parents decide to offer to pay for all of close family to attend we will welcome that but otherwise we are going to do just us. Did you end up doing a registry for your wedding. I was wondering if I should do a sandals registry for people who are interested in gifting even though we are not asking for gifts as we are having not guests at this point. What is your total budget. We are thinking of trying to get away with something under $5500.00 including flights, passport, dress, tux, a few tanning sessions, etc. Now that our room is costing us 3630.80 including trip insurance I think this may be possible.
