MOB dress

My mom has not really started shopping for her MOB dress yet. She says she does not know where to start. We looked around a little when shopping for my dress but she didn't really see anything she liked. I was wondering if you all had suggestions for some websites we can start looking at to help her figure out what type of dress she wants. What stores did your moms get their dresses at? Thanks!

I shopped at the major department stores, but specifically steered clear of the bridal departments. I looked at cocktail dresses at Nordstrom, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, and White House Black Market.

I found my dress online at Nordstrom. I actually ordered 3 from the website (which has so much more than you can find at the stores). They have an outstanding return policy, and what you have shipped to the house you can return via their brick and mortar store.

I lean toward less embellished, tailored, and structured dresses. If your mom prefers that style, suggest she look at Tadashi Shoji, Lauren, or Calvin Klein. Adrianna Papell and Maggy London are other strong lines with some appropriate MOB looks.

Bhldn.com has some really pretty dresses. You can't try them on, but you can return it if it doesn't work for you.

My mother and my FMIL looked around at department stores for dresses. They both found dresses that they liked, but nothing jumped out at them. They both ended up order dresses from the same bridal shop I ordered my gown from.

Department stores NOT David's Bridal. DB dresses are kind of stereotypical, IMO, and they rarely have nice ones.

Both MOB & MOG got their dresses at Department Stores in the evening wear or night out sections.

My mom got hers at neiman Marcus. Not in a bridal section, just in the regular formal dress department. IMO, traditional MOB dresses are pretty boring and matronly.
