Clash of the Themes!

My fiancé and I definitely have two completely different taste as far as our color scheme and decor ideas. We decided that we are going to have a wedding in the woods, that was our compromise. I like the idea of it, I think it's very intimate and somewhat enchanting but im stumped as far ceremony decor. The color scheme I had in mind was blush pink (like my dress) gold, and ivory. He despises those colors, he thinks it's too femininine & yeah it kinda is lol he loves the look of rustic decor but I think getting married in the woods is plenty of rustic lol how can I incorporate his rustic charm and my love for all things pretty. I'm very open minded and have an eclectic sense of style. But any suggestions with decoration ideas where we can both be pleased would be awesome. Bc so far I'm only envisioning Duck Dynasty at a tea party! Help!

Re: Clash of the Themes!

  • Well what colors would he prefer?  Things can still be pretty but not be in the blush pink color scheme.  I think you two need to decide on colors and then go from there.

  • My favorite color is purple.  Like i'm obsessed.    DH HATES purple.     So our compromise was Brown with lavender and ivory accents.  I got my pop of purple, but it was not over-the-top like DH feared.

Blush pink goes with a lot of colors.  Maybe find more of an earthy main color and just use pink as the accents?  A pop of pink in a sash, in the flowers, etc

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • If he likes the outdoors you can pair the blush pink as an accent with more natural colors, such as green and brown (and even a little ivory too).  There are some amazing outdoor themed weddings that still look very classy and elegant.  I would ask him what he wants to do.  If he has no opinion you can search around for some ideas and try to get him interested that way (it worked for me)

If your dress is blush the BM's could wear ivory and then just center the reception decor around the woodys colors with pops mixed in.  You can do candles hung from manzanita branches as centerpieces with crystal accents (both classy and outdoorsy).  Like this photo you can replace the deep pinks with your blush color and it would be a nice look.

  • I think you can still use those colors you love, but try to play up the earthiness of leaves and branches. I would definitely include a lot of a deep forest green (ie. keep plenty of leaves in your flowers) and play up the gold/ivory tones with minimal pops of the blush. That keeps the rustic thing going as well as a richer palette for FI, and maintains your classic gold/ivory/blush tones as the main focus. I think the juxtaposition of the earthiness and elegance would be very unique as well!
