Wedding Woes

Black Heart

My neighborhood FB page is all "thank the plow drivers!  Bake them brownies!  Buy them lunch?"  What?  It's their job.  Sure the hours might be long, but they are in a heated truck getting paid.  I feel worse for the mail woman, UPS guy, and garbage/recycle man.

Re: Black Heart

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure they get paid overtime and double time.

I mean, you can be thankful, but they get paid too, and well.

  • Um, DH's uncle has a FT job and does contracted plowing.  He gets paid quite well to do his second, sesonal job.

I've seen our city plow trucks.  They're huge and look quite nice.  I'm sure the guy is quite toasty and probably enjoys a sandwich or something while plowing my street.
  • I agree.

Southern girl, snow question. If you only have street parking and they plow the snow onto the sides of the street. How do you get your car from under all of that snow?

This might be a dumb question, but humor me.

  • Nola - I am from MI and don't miss that part at ALL!  My mom told me last night she has at least 3 feet of snow on her van and a drift higher than it is all down the drivers side.  They have only been taking SD jeep out because their cul-de-sac holds so much at the end of the drive ways there is NO WAY to keep it cleaned out.  They use the snow blower in the mornings and by the time they come home from work they have plowed the street and put it right back, lol.

  • @NOLABridesmaid In Chicago, there are snow parking bans on a lot of streets because of it.  They also don't really plow side streets so much, so it's not too much of a problem.  I live in the suburbs and park in my lovely garage, so my friends that live in the city are pretty much just screwed and have to dig it out when they get plowed in, a week later.  Suckers!

  • They will often plow AROUND your car, if it's not a snow emergency otherwise if you leave it there, they will tow it eventually.

There will be a bit more snow by your car, but not feet or anything.

  • Our HOA emailed us to let us know to shovel out around our mailboxes and fire hydrants.  We have a fire hydrant in our front yard.  We're on a corner and there's so much snow from the plows piled up that we can't even see it.  Hope nothing catches on fire!

  • you shovel it out.
  • That sounds like a lot of work. I feel for you ladies. I'm sure y'all feel like jumping in the air once spring comes.

<please be posting your jumping in the air pics for my enjoyment>

  • If I post those NOLA, there will be an "after" of me falling on my butt.  You're welcome in advance.

  • I assume those messages of cookies/hotchocolate are for the plow drivers who aren't getting paid that do the driveways out of the kindness of their hearts. Our neighbor who plows and gets paid by businesses etc usually does at least the end of the driveways for at least 15 people on our street. he doesn't get paid for that. he gets all the brownies!
