shoes: the logistics

So here's my pickle…

My dress isn't slated to arrive stateside from the UK until mid-May. I've scheduled my first fitting for May 21, which is a pretty tight squeeze considering we get married in MT on July 19 (leaving on the 13th, so 6 week max turnaround for alterations & final fitting). I haven't seen my dress since I tried it on/fell in love/purchased it, and at that point (which was 4 days post-engagment), hadn't even begun to think of shoes. Now I am, but since I don't have the dress, I'm haven't a clue what will look good with it. Do I just purchase a handful of 'em to try on when I go in for my first fitting return the ones I don't like? It's seems logical to me since the dress can be hemmed as needed at that point, but wanted to make sure I'm not way off point. I'm likely over thinking this…sometimes I'm a sucker for minutiae

Bottom line - how did y'all pick your shoes and know they would work with your dress?

I picked mine in a cobalt blue so I didn't have to worry about shades of white or ivory. Either way, if you have a long dress, you won't see your shoes all that often. Do pick a shoe before you go for a fitting because they will hem the dress according to your height in you shoes.

I ordered mine from DSW, on sale for $25. I didn't want to break the bank with shoes I wouldn't wear often. I lucked out and ended up falling in love with a bargain. Others have suggested Zappos. If you plan to order a few, make sure you can return them for free.

I would also go with a colored shoe to alleviate the worry of not matching. Perhaps you can get shoes in one of your wedding colors?

In general, I would go for pretty, inexpensive and above all comfortable. Your shoes won't be visible for most (if not all) of the night and they usually don't show up in photos anyway. Sore feet can ruin a night of otherwise fun-filled dancing and mingling. I suggest going into a store (after working or walking around all day if possible to account for swelling) to try shoes on. If they are shoes you can wear more than once, all the better!

Thanks, ladies! I like the color idea so I'll definitely pick up a pair that's got some pop. I'm not looking for a big heal (less than 2"...I'm already 5'11" so don't need to touch the sky) and I wear heals pretty frequently so I'm used to walking in them. Plus we're not dancing...so it's just the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner reception. Off to go do some shopping...

My shoes are Madden Girl Getta. I highly recommend them. I have them in patent nude too and they're my go to work and go out shoes-very comfy. They're about 2" heel includibg platform
