Where are the Jamaican Brides Mon?

Currently I'm pretty sold on Jamaica and interested in any experience. I think the top of our list currently are Sandals Negril and Couples Swept Away but would love to hear where you have been, what you liked and what you didn't like. Anything you have to say will be welcomed :)

Re: Where are the Jamaican Brides Mon?

  • I'll be getting married in negril, June 7th,2014 at the Riu Tropical bay...They have great packages that include a reception as well...My ceremony decor even hair make and nails and toes to be done....
  • I didn't get married there, but I stayed at Couples Sans Souci for a week. It was absolutely fabulous, and beautiful. I loved the Couples resort (we visited the one down the road as well). Scuba diving, snorkeling, and all non motorized water sports were included in your stay. Not sure if you're a scuba diver, but it's expensive and we went every day that we could. They also included the resort course, so you could learn before going at no cost as well.

The alcohol was amazing, the staff was more than friendly, and they were so very, very helpful.

  • @luckystarz have you ever been to the sandals in Jamaica? Where did you choose to have your ceremony?
  • @Carters That sounds amazing! I will definitely have to look into that one. Is the hotel directly on 7 mile beach?
  • @Ausome13 - We stopped there to pick up some folks for an excursion, they had mixed reviews. Some loved it, and some thought it was too loud and too American. It's really what you're looking for.

As I stated, I didn't get married there, I just went for a week and loved it. We are getting married a few hours from where we live. We wanted a beach wedding, but the drama that came with it wasn't worth it so we decided on an extremely small wedding, and a kick butt honeymoon.

  • @luckystarz thanks for the info! Sounds like a great option and I hope your day is exactly what you are hoping for :)
  • Also the Sandals Resort in Ochos Rios is split, you have to cross a street (public, and they drive like maniacs) to get to the beach part with the pools and most restaurants, and the rooms and such are on the other side of the street. It personally isn't my thing, and they could have built a bridge or something since (I went in 2007), but I know that was a sticking point for a few people we heard talking about it.

  • We are having our wedding in Jamaica next year. We will either do RIU Tropical Bay or RIU Clubhotel. The Tropical Bay is nicer but cost more and the Club Hotel, kids are free. So we are waiting to see who all will want to bring children before we book one.
  • JUNE 7th, 2014 Riu TROPICAL BAY NEGRIL......Right Pon De BEach
  • What are you girls doing for your first dance...I was thinking right on beach after ceremony....or moving down further on beach and hosting (garter toss,Bouquet toss, Mother son dance, First Dance Etc) My ceremony starts at 2:00pm and dinner doesnt start until 6:00pm
  • I am getting married at Ochos Rios, Grande Riviera in Jamaica on May 15 2015. We are having no guest and our cost for a 7 night stay is about 3600 with the trip insurance. We have a butler suite which I have read alot of positive reviews on. They have been so helpful so far and I am scheduled for my first phone call with my wedding planner on May 1 2014.

  • @awesome13 Yes it is and said to have the most beautiful sunrise and set
  • @wishescometrue5 Sounds amazing! I'd love to here how your consolation goes!
  • @Ausome13 I will make sure to let you know! I have seen a lot of really good reviews on Ochos Rio's weddings. I will admit that I am trying not to let some of the negative reviews bother me. I feel as though as long as I continue to do my research so that I know what to expect I will not be disappointed. When I set my date, they sent me an e-mail with the wedding planning guide if you are interested in that I will post a link to it for you. They give you a $ credit to start with for your wedding and without including the pictures and video I think I have managed to keep my cost at $225. I will have a bouquet; fiance will have his boutonniere; we will have the cake with three pink roses on top, and the sand ceremony. They also give you a second $500 credit to use towards other items of your choice, but they give you a list to choose from. The government fee of $95 dollar for the wedding is included in this so it gives you a total of $405 to use for other things. So basically you get around $1000.00 to work with but I am not sure what I will use the last $405 for yet.

  • Also, I see that someone mentioned that the resort is split which I guess could be an inconvenience. I do not know if I see this bothering us as we plan on having a pretty laid back relaxing trip. We are spending seven days there and are there for our wedding and honeymoon, so we are likely not going to be in a rush for most things. I do have a map of the resort. It looks like the Butler suites are all on the other side of this road, so we will have to cross this often. I have read if you have a butler, and you forget your sunscreen or something at the hotel, that you can just call them on the cell phone they give you and they will bring it to you at the pool. While I might feel a little weird to have the butler at first I am so excited for the experience of a laid back week.

  • We have chosen riu Ocho roils for our June wedding! Please post back with what you guys liked and what we should keep in mind.
  • @Meggos1988 Are you getting married at Ochos Rios in June 2015? If so I will definitely let you know. I think that the most expensive aspect of our wedding is going to be the photos and the video graphy which is probably. This is what will put us over budget. Fiance's parents are more than likely going to be helping with that portion of the bill. We want the video because we have decided to get married just the two of us and this way our parents who are all supportive of this decision will be able to see us get married.

  • No June 2014. And yes photography defiantly put a huge dent in our budget. One thing that I would recommend to you to make an impression( of course if your budget allows) hire a steal drum band. We were scoping out resorts last summer and I heard a band on the beach play the wedding march.... I fell in love. I am not sure how much it will cost at other resorts but it's a small fraction of the photography.
  • @wishescometrue5 I would love the link! It sounds lovely.
