or can I be a little annoyed?
Back story - my parents and FI's parents are paying for the wedding (mainly mine). We are really grateful. My mom has lots of strong opinions about EVERYTHING. Since they're paying, I've been letting her choose.
I.e. I wanted a sweetheart table, but my mom saw a long head table in a photo and thought it looked "amazing" so we are doing that (Don't worry - with dates). I wanted wine barrels for the flower arrangement at the ceremony (we are getting married at a winery) she thought they were tacky so we're doing wrought iron thingies. Ok fine. None of these were really really important to me so I let her pick. It's her $.
The ONE thing that is important to me is my wedding dress. She has pretty much made dress shopping a nightmare. I've gone to 6 salons on 5 separate days and tried on any dress that she asked. She and I will agree that we like one in the store, then she will go home and look at the interwebs and get another idea ("You didn't try any A-lines on, I think an A-Line would be perfect. Let's go look at A-lines...."). I found a dress that I LOVED and she initially really liked too. Then she decided she didn't like it and started saying horrible stuff about it (like being so mean that I really couldn't wear it because I kept thinking how bad she said it looked on me).
My FI said - let's pay for the dress so she doesn't get a say. I told my dad we were going to do that but he said - "No, i'm paying for it and you get to pick it out." So i went with friends and narrowed it down to two dresses but my mom wanted to see them before they bought one so I had her come in on sunday to see them.
She ended up liking them (thank god!) but here's where it gets weird - she tried them on. She kept saying "i think it will be helpful for you to see" and I kept saying "uh - no that's not actually helpful, thanks' but she insisted. I'm 5-5 and curvy, my mom is 5-3 and a size 0. We don't have the same body. It was not remotely helpful. It was just weird. The sales girl was looking at me like "whaaa?"
Then my mom asked the sales girl to try them on and thankfully she passed.
Anyways - thanks for letting me vent. I'm bummed that dress shopping turned into a total nightmare (I didn't even get into all of it). I cried every time we went. And them my mom decides that she's going to try on the dresses - while I sit there and watch. So weird!
