Planning Help

Hello!  I am hoping you guys can help me with my planning dilemma.  I am trying to plan on October destination wedding.  I have sent STD to everyone we plan on inviting (immediate family/BM/MOH).  All together my guest count is 32 people.  My problem is that because this is a destination wedding I have no clue on how many guests may actually come.  I know it is proper to plan for 100% attendance, but the number could actually be much lower.  I am trying plan a ceremony, strip tour, and dinner, but without a "real" number of guests I am not sure what I should do.  Has anyone else had to deal with this issue and if you did, how did address this issue?

Re: Planning Help

  • I would suggest that you find places that will allow for the 32, but that can also accommodate a lower number.  I would also suggest having your RSVP date a little early to allow you as much time to plan as possible.  Ours is Feb. 28th for a May 3rd wedding.

    Good luck and happy planning!

  • If it's immediate family/ best friends are you not able to ask informally the next time you see them, just casually asking as you are talking about your plans. I only had immediate family, parents, aunts and uncles they all just told me they were coming I didn't send any invites which was great as I just catered for those numbers.
  • we have it planned for less than 30 people, i know we will have more than 20, i just sent a text that said we are planning for this date ...wanting to see if this was doable for your family, if not let me know.

  • To be honest, that has been the hardest part of planning this wedding! I agree with PP, find a venue that can accommodate all 32 guests but won't look too bare with less.

Restaurant banquet rooms are generally pretty good for this.

  • As frustrating as it can be at times, it is important to find a venue and a budget that can accommodate everybody that you are inviting. Just think about how more stressful it will be if you book a venue that can only accommodate 20 people and 25 people end up coming?

We invited 100 people to our wedding and ended up with 60. In the end it worked out great as we were able to have some fun upgrades (like a slider station and a ice cream station) in order to meet our food and drink minimum.
  • We invited somewhere in the mid to high 130 range and ended up with 125, so you really never now how many people might show up when it involves Vegas.  I'd plan for 100% attendance as a precaution, or, try to work with vendors who are flexible so you can establish a price per person but drop down to some agreed upon minimum.

  • Thank you so much for all of your answers.  My biggest problem is planning for after the ceremony.  I know that I should plan for 32, but I could honestly end up with less than 10 guests. That is the part that is frustrating.  I am not sure if I should use my budget for a full reception for 32 or if I should plan a dinner for 10 and use the rest of the budget to entertain the guests that are coming (such as a show or a DDB tour).
I am going to book the ceremony in the next week and then let our families know this information.  Hopefully they will then let me know if they are thinking of coming, so I can plan a little better.  With our family spread out all over the country it is difficult to just ask them their intentions.
  • We have family all over the US seems like LOL!  I looked for Ceremony places that held around the amount of people we are having come, we are sending out 50 invites but I know that about 25-30 will come. Most people by now know what there vacation plans look like in the future...like for me i sent the text out in December for our July wedding i knew instantly if people could make it or not make it.
