walking down the aisle & giving the bride away

My dad left when I was just 1 yr old. But over the years, he came back and we now have a decent relationship. He said he would be honored to walk me down the aisle, if that's what I want. I also have a step dad who has been in my life for 13 years now, but we were never close at all. He was never much of a father figure. So I've been debating who to walk me down the aisle. I really don't want my step dad to walk me down. My mom does not want my biological father involved at all and wants my step dad to somehow be involved. I suggested that my biological dad walks me down the aisle, but my mom and step dad gives me away. I figured that way they would all be involved. And with my mom giving me away, at least I would have someone who deserves to give me away. Would it look silly if my dad walks me down, but my mom & step dad give me away? I just don't know what to do.

  • What if you just walk yourself? OR you have your mom walk you?

If you want your dad to walk you, you should do that.  I mean this is really a personal choice. Do what you feel comfortable. But I don't think you have to have anyone "give you away" unless you really want to.

walk with whomever you want. if you feel that your mom is most deserving, then it should be her. if you want your dad, then that is your decision. you can even walk alone and give yourself away, which makes the whole thing sound so outdated.

but ultimately, it is your decision. whoever walks you down is going to hold your hand and you should be very comformtable with that person.

  • Can you have one walk on each side? Just another idea.
  • If you want to just have your mom give you a way so neither "father figure" gets picked over the other, that is totally fine.  Your original idea is also fine- letting everyone be involved so no one gets left out and the drama is avoided.  Whatever you choose, just make sure you are truly okay with it.  Sometimes compromise is necessary to avoid drama but ultimately it's still your wedding, your life, and your decision.  If no one is happy with your suggestions of compromise, walk alone.  No one should make you feel guilty about the decisions you are making for you own wedding.
