Olympics rant

So, I'm not the biggest sports person. I like sports, I like hockey, I'm okay with football of both varieties, but I won't like, follow it. it's more like, I'll catch a random game here and there, or watch the "bigger" events.

But the Olympics? I will EAT THAT SHIT UP. Seriously, for two weeks every two years, I have no problem being all sports all the time. I will gladly. GLADLY miss regular shows I watch in favor of the Olympics. IT'S 2014 WHY DOES ARE OLYMPIC COVERAGE SUCK SO MUCH. I DON'T CARE ABOUT STEVE HARVEY NBC SHOW ME THE GODDAMN PAIRS SKATING.

Also, I don't care that the uniform designs were done a year ago, I firmly believe Germany is trolling Russia. Which is great cause it's GERMANY.

I've been watching a lot of live Olympic coverage on TV.   U-verse as a Olympic app.  This morning I was watching live curling.   Which by-the-way is an awesome Olympic sport. Too bad the USA sucks at it this year.

ETA  - right now I'm watching pairs skating

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Hmm. I don't know how to do apps on my tv. I have pairs skating up right now on my desktop, but it's only a half hour because apparently you have to pay to show support for your country now.

    Fuck NBC. And to Google!

Pairs is on live at NBCSN on my cable.  Curling was live this morning on USA network (mind you it was 5am, but it was live).     Women's Hockey (Russia va Japan)  is on MSNBC live.

  • NBC's coverage sucks. And you basically have to avoid all major news sources if you don't the results spoiled and you want to watch it when NBC airs it. Ugh.

I want to watch men's snowboarding right now but it's not on until "prime time". NBC did this the last Olympics and I remember there being so much outrage over it. I feel that outrage again now.

I'm honestly getting sick of figure skating because I feel like that's all I've watched lately. I'm looking forward to women's ski jumping at 1:30.

ETA: Or not -- looks like ski jumping will be on before 1:30. Woot!

  • I am irritated with the skiers and snowboarders constantly bitching about the conditions of the snow/course.  They do realize that the conditions of the snow is 100% dependent on the weather, not the Olympic committee in Russia right?  And the actual courses, you are fucking Olympians dammit, shut your trap and ski down the mountain.  I didn't realize that they needed perfect conditions to compete.  Winning a gold medal is just as much about skill as it is about how well you are able to adapt to your surroundings.  If the only way you can win a gold is by having perfect conditions then you don't deserve it.

Ha!!  The advantages of living in Canada.  I get the regular CBC feed, as well as one in French.  I also get both streamed at work.  When nothing good is on either of those, I switch to the 2 US feeds on cable.  We are constantly flipping between 4 different TV feeds and I might have been watching the third period of Can/Finland hockey yesterday morning during my keynote speaker at PD.  Oops.  My coverage is awesome!!

    ETA - English to French

God I love the CBC website! I just watch it all day and at night for the live events!

  • I agree, the coverage sucks!
  • The coverage really does suck. That being said I'm looking forward to watching Shawn White tonight.
  • So far I am only able to watch it when it is on NBC during the day (at work) because we do not have cable at home. We typically use the basic digital cable but have not moved the TV to our new place yet!  I am hoping will go get it soon so I can watch the prime time events too. I am not a sports fan whatsoever, but I love watch the olympics! and if it were not for the olympics I could care less if we had the TV hooked up (which is why it was not done when we moved, lol).

  • I love you because I read your post in my voice because not only did you express my exact feelings, you wrote it in a way that I could swear came out of my own mouth.
