Help! Poll: Does your Save the Date set the tone for your wedding?

Hi all!  My fiance and I are in the process of selecting our Save the Dates, and while we feel that the Save the Date can often times set the mood/style of your wedding, we've received other input that our STD should match the vibe of our invitations.  We'll be having a 2pm ceremony in a church with a reception to follow at a country club, so nothing overly formal or stuffy.  I definitely lean towards a more traditional/classic style for invitations (cream/white paper and black print) so it was in my mind that we could use the Save the Date to incorporate a bit of the fun that our guests can expect at the reception.

I'm open to any and all input regarding your personal opinion, what you see often in invitations that you receive to other weddings, etc.

Thank you!

  • You are stressing way too much about this. STD are not invitations; they definitely do not set the tone for your wedding. They literally let people know when your wedding date is so that they can begin to make arrangements.

They don't have to match your colors or your venue. Just find some you like and call it good. Stop listening to these people. They are silly.

This.  I have never once got a STD and thought "ooh they must be having such and such a wedding."  What I think is "Oh they are getting married on X day.  Wonder if I can make it?"  And the STD proceeds to hang on my fridge until I get the invite and then into the trash it goes.

  • Thanks ladies!
  • STDs are a very new custom.  They are not even necessary.
