Is this weird?

My venue is requesting we put menu options on out invite. Fine I will put them on the rsvp card and have a full description of each entree on the website. When I asked them if I had to do assigned seats (already planning on doing tables) or have the escort cards color coordinated some how so they would know who wanted what they said no they will be doing table side ordering the day of but want an idea of which entree choice is in high demand before hand to plan out how much they need to supply of each. This way they do not have to prep 100 of each entree. They said they do it that way so people are able to change their mind the day of.

Has anyone been in a situation like this? Honestly I would be confused as a guest as to why I had to choose an entree in the rsvp when i got to chose again at the event. Thoughts anyone.

  • This happened at a wedding I attended. Nobody was confused and they mostly asked for the thing they had put on their card in the first place.

  • Thank you. I guess when was striking me weird was that it was two different levels of formality and that I had only been to weddings with one or the other not both.

  • If I were a guest I would just tell them what I had picked on the RSVP card and figure that it was there way to determine who got what at the table, rather then having color coordinated cards.

  • I have attended a few weddings where I have pre-selected my entree on my RSVP card and was asked again table-side what my choice was. In events I've planned for work, we've done it this way as well. When I was booking my own wedding however, there was upcharge for this type of service so we declined it. It does not strike me as unusual, and I would never be offended or confused to have been asked twice what my entree choice was.
  • Sometimes I've forgotten what I chose on the RSVP card, and have gotten confused and stressed when asked at the table. But I guess that's just me! I don't think there's any problem with this method.
  • This is pretty normal and logical.
  • Thank you all again. I really was over thinking this.

  • It sounds reasonable to me.
  • This system will allow you to pay fully in advance even if there are small changes after.  I'm assuming they encourage the meal RSVP to determine how much you will pay them.

    Wrong thread.
  • Yup, don't worry about it. I've been to weddings like this. I just asked for what I'd marked on my card. My mother couldn't remember, so she just picked what she wanted. Venues tend to make a bit more than what's ordered anyway, just in case of surprises guests or mishaps with the food (like overdone steak), so it's not a huge deal if a few people change from chicken to steak and vice versa.
  • FI and I had our final venue meeting recently, and we had this exact discussion with our coordinator. Like PPs mentioned, it gives the venue some wiggle room to accommodate people who forget or change their minds when ordering or have an over cooked entree.
