Wedding Invitations & Paper

When to send invitations

The standard time all over sites say 6-8 weeks out. Perfect.

But is that 6-8 weeks from the actual wedding date or 6-8 weeks from the RSVP due date?

I was assuming it was the actual wedding date, but I recently read 6-8 weeks from RSVP due date and now I am confused.

Just wanted to get some final input on this, thanks!

Re: When to send invitations

  • Six to eight weeks from the wedding date.

  • As PP said, 6-8 weeks from the date of the wedding. The only exception would be if someone is from a country that requires a copy of the invitation and and letter from the couple to acquire a visa to attend the wedding.

  • Fantastic, thanks so much!
  • yes.  6-8 weeks before.  A good rule of thumb is to have the RSVP 3 weeks before your wedding date.
  • It does seem a bit late though doesn't it? Especially considering you have to confirm numbers with your suppliers so far in advance... and arrange transport etc.

I want to know my final guest list numbers at least a month before the wedding so we can get the favours, welcome baskets etc.

Surely 3 weeks before the date is leaving it a bit late?

    No it really isn't.

As for favors, I made 150 favors because we invited 135 people and the favors were chocolate bars so I wanted extra just in case people wanted to take more then one.  We had 130 people come to our wedding and we had about 15 chocolate bars leftover.  Having extra favors is not the end of the world.

Welcome baskets take no time to put together.  Three weeks is plenty of time to get all the stuff together and put into bags.

As for confirming your numbers with your vendors.  Your vendors will tell you when they need a final headcount.  Typically, for caterers, that is about 2 weeks before your wedding.  Your florist and baker and what not do not need as much time and can be a bit more relaxed about numbers until you are about a week from your wedding day.

  • Yes it perfect and also depends upon the no. of guest that are going to attend your wedding, so it’s perfect to start 6 weeks before the wedding or earlier than that.
