Wedding Party

Ideas for gifts....

Ok, so I have had the hardest time trying to figure out what I want to do for bridesmaid gifts.  I see so many things out there that are just those type of gifts that you receive and smile while opening it, but just stick it in a draw, cabinet, or back of your closet because you will NEVER use it again....I want to find a really great idea that they can use or wear again.  I am not 100% permanent on this, but I think also that I want to get the same for all (more or less) so it is less of a battle of who I spent more on or who it LOOKS like I spent more on....

I could REALLY use some help on this! I'm getting married in September so I know that I still have time, but I have been thinking about this for over a year and really have yet to find anything that screams out at me! PLEASE HELP!!

Much appreciation in advance!

Re: Ideas for gifts....

  • Shop like you're looking for their birthdays or Christmas. The wine lover could get a couple good bottles of wine, the reader could get an accessory for her e-reader and a couple new books, the sports fan could get apparel in her team's colors, etc.
  • Ditto KeptInStitches. Your bridesmaids are presumably adults. I have no idea why they would sit around analyzing and comparing their gifts form you or looking up prices. You should spend around the same for each gift, but don't feel like you have to give them all the same thing.
  • Yep, birthday or Christmas. Get them things individually that they would love.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Ok, I will try to approach this more on the lines of different things and shopping as if I was for any other celebration.  Maybe I am just putting to much pressure on it because I am looking at it with regards to my wedding instead of just like you all have said, birthday or Christmas.

    Thanks for the help! :)
  • I don't know your girls, so it's hard to give specific advice, but I can tell you what I got mine, so you can get an idea of what other people do.

    For the new mom:
A leather clutch in the color scheme/decor of her newborn's nursery; a sterling silver baby shoe charm with her daughter's birth date inscribed on the bottom; and a gift certificate to Etsy (her favorite site).

    For the makeup artist/entertainer:
A personalized cosmetics case in her favorite colors; a set of monogrammed wine glasses with a set of wine glass stem tags for differentiation at parties; and a gift certificate to Sephora.

    For the drinker:
A leather clutch in her favorite colors; a set of stemless wine glasses with her nickname on them; a bottle opener in the shape of her sorority's symbol; and a gift certificate to her favorite local wine, meat, and cheese shop.

    For the new home owner:
A leather clutch in her favorite colors with her initials embedded into ice skates (she used to play college hockey); stainless steel monogrammed coasters; champagne flutes in a matching monogram style; and a gift certificate to Pottery Barn.

    For the golfer/drinker:
A leather clutch in her favorite colors with her initials surrounding a golf tee; a set of stemless wine glasses with her nickname on them; a golf ball wine stopper; and a gift certificate to her favorite golf course.

I'm also treating them to mani/pedis the day before the wedding.

I went to Mark & Graham for everything but the gift cards and was very pleased with the quality.

    Hope this helps!
  • I'm trolling my friends Etsy favorites. I'll probably get each of them something from there.

Or course, my one friend not on Etsy will prove more problematic.

  • The secret I used for my gifts: Trolling around on their Pinterest for ideas. They had this "I've seen this before but I can't place where I've seen it." look on their face...it was great.
  • That's a really great idea mlg!! I love the suggestion about etsy too from chibiyui because I absolutely LOVE etsy, but none of my other girls are really on it as much as me.  However, the pinterest one is a great place to start!  Thank you!
  • jenniferurs, thank you so much for the specifics! That really gave me some great ideas of how to do things similar but still single out their individuality.  Just one question, you got each of them all of those things right?

    Yes ma'am :)
  • If you're worried about them "comparing gifts" remember that you're not required to give them all their gifts at once. I didn't give gifts at the rehearsal dinner. I gave each bridesmaid their gift one-on-one when I saw each of them leading up to the wedding. There doesn't have to be a show of it.
