  1. Do not worry that wearing white will make you look fat. A well-tailored dress in any color will make you look beautiful.
  
  2. Many dresses will be displayed in white or ivory, but may be available in other colors. I found a beautiful one that came in a soft blue. Just ask your salon about options, they can definitely help.
  
  3. Depending on your budget, you may be able to have your dress dyed or custom made in another color. Again, ask your salon.
  
  4. Don't assume you have to wear a dress that's branded as a wedding gown. Look at evening gowns or even prom gowns if you want to wear something formal but colorful.
  
  5. When you try things on, let go of your "vision". The dress I ended up buying looked nothing like what I had envisioned, but was 10000 times more flattering than anything I had tried on that I thought I wanted. (Turns out I look ridiculous in ivory lace.)

  I agree with PP. White isn't going to make you look any bigger than you are.  And most wedding dresses have structure that regular clothing doesn't. Boning and proper fitting can give you curves you didn't know you had !  

  If you don't like white, well, that's perfectly fine.  But, don't dismiss it because you think it will make you look bigger.  It won't. 

  There are some designers that make blush gowns, Maggie Sottero has a few.  It will really depend on your style and budget.  You can also get any evening gown in the color you want, but just note, evening gowns don't have the same structure/boning that I was talking about above.  So, in my opinion, they aren't as flattering.
