not your typical bridesmaids dresses

Anyone know of any stores in Northern Jersey to look for not your typical bridesmaids dresses?

Re: not your typical bridesmaids dresses

  • This would be a good question to ask your local board.

Also, what do you mean by "not your typical bridesmaid dresses?"  You could always just go to a local department store or even Ann Taylor Loft, J Crewe, White House Black Market, etc and just see what type of dresses that they have in stock.  Bridesmaid dresses don't have to come from a bridal boutique.

  • Modcloth.com is where I got mine. Just be sure you read all the reviews and take measurements and compare them to the sizing chart. At worst, you'd be out shipping & handling if it didn't work out.
  • My experiences with Modcloth dresses has been terrible. I have purchased about 6 of them over the past few years and all of them went back.

  • My bridesmaids got their dresses at Macy's.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • @sarahufl You have to really go by the reviews. The best dresses to get are the ones that have an Our Favorite tag. I think you can filter through the bestsellers, too. I did take a chance on the one I chose for my BMs. It was so pretty, but it just had ok reviews. Luckily it worked out!
  • I love Modcloth, I ordered about 10 things from them and 2 had to be returned but just because they didn't look that great on me (I am kind of picky).  They have great customer service and returns are no problem.  I usually only purchase items that have good reviews and pictures of women with curves in the item and/or reviews from women with similar measurements to mine.

  • I live in Northern NJ and I'm still not exactly sure what you are looking for.  I'd consider atypical BM dresses to be maybe not matching, not the same color, or not sold as a "BM" dress.  You can use any dress for your BMs, doesn't have to be a bridal shop.

My favorite places to shop for dresses are Francesca's Collections for a casual look (a chain, we have one in Jersey City and Menlo mall); Nordstrom; Tia's Place in Jersey City for a party look; Piperlime in SoHo or online; South Moon Under in Montclair or Westfield for a more boho look.  I used to work at Celebrating You in Morristown and they have great stuff, plus they're next to "I Do... I Do..." if you want to also look at traditional BM dresses while in town.  I would call before you go though, not sure if they are still open.
