Yaki Ravid... AH-MAZING!!!

I've been on a high ALL week since I met Israeli Bridal Designer, Yaki Ravid and his little team. He comes to Australia once a year, and I was sooo lucky to get an appointment to look at his new 2014 collection. I went in there thinking... there is no way I can afford this stuff, and I was right for the most part.
I tried on his dresses and I LOVED THEM ALL and then I tried on one that his 2IC suggested that I thought was a definate "NO" on the hanger... and then.... I bought it!! Well, to be correct.. I committed to buying it.

Yaki then came out of nowhere, measured me up... and BOOOM, now my dress is getting made!!! I should get it in September. It's crazy knowing that I was fitted by the same guy that is hand-sewing my dress.

I kind of feel terrible because I was complaining about not having any $$$ in the budget, but then I went and spent a stupid amount on my dress. HAHA! BUT it is awesome, and so unique... (half of it is see through)

Did anyone else do anything similar? Or am I the only idiot?

  • I got blinded by dress love too. I wanted something simple and inexpensive, bridally without being bridally and absolutely no veil. I fell in love with a champagne Casablanca and a fingertip veil. I spent 4 times what I planned on spending. I'm thankful my boutique did not have the $7500 Lazaro I wanted to peek at or I'd really be in trouble!

  • nope not at all! I wanted my dress to be under $300 and i got it for $50, I have a very hard time justifying spending thousands of dollars on a dress that is going to be worn for a day if that and put in my closet. but that's just me and i'm usually the odd one out on things

  • @shoebunnie i just googled what a fingertip veil is... so pretty :)

@ssteele04 yeah that "was" me... I am kinda disappointed in myself, but then kinda of proud at the same time - always buy stuff for everyone else... but never me!! I wanted something completely out of the ordinary - shocking, but elegant, and I got it... but with the price tag - that I will probably regret in a few years when we are broke! I envy that you were were able to find your gown for a price under your budget. nice work!!!

  • @ssteele04 where did you get a dress for $50???  That sounds like my kind of budget! :-)

  • @Jixxt that is SO exciting! I hope you are going to take that bad boy out the day after your wedding for a 'rock the dress' photo shoot. Its the pictures that will get you through the buyers remorse when you are feeling a bit broke. Im sure you will look HELLA HOT though. Whooo for the see through! I could never pull something like that off.

I fell in love with an Anna Campbell dress that had I had the extra money to fly to Australia twice for extended periods I would've been all over. The price was obscene to me but the dress is truly drool worthy. @jixxt here's the veil I went with!

  • @missmo14 OMG I completely forgot about a ROCK THE DRESS shoot. Just added on my list of things to do. What's your theme for your one? One day a loooong time ago I wanted to a 'trash the dress' where you set yourself on fire with the dress (bit crazy) but the pics look awesome. This is OUT OF THE QUESTION now... considering the $$ I'm spending!! haha

@shoebunnie ooohhhhhhhhhhh sooooo nice. I looked at Anna Campbell too... she is amazing also!! What did you end up going with? Lazaro still? Or another designer?
  • I'm so excited for you - congratulations, nothing better than falling madly in love with your dress!

I did the same thing when I married my first husband.  My mom and I made an appointment at a really nice bridal salon "just to go try on different styles".  We absolutely were NOT going to buy anything.  Nobody had said budget but my parents were very generous, they were paying for everything.  I thought I might try to have a dress made, the idea of spending more than a thousand dollars was crazy to us.

I picked out a couple and tried them on but nothing was working. This woman who was shopping for her daughter stopped me and asked if I wouldn't do her a favour - her daughter was my height and my colouring and would I try on a dress so she could see it on me?  I laughed, and said, "sure why not?"  So I tried it on and my mom and I instantly fell head over heels.  It was a Lazarro...  buttercup yellow satin halterneck and a princess ballgown skirt, 8 layers of tulle in blush, ivory and buttercup yellow... silk cabbage rose petals... sorry I still swoon years later over it.  My mom paid several times over her original idea of $1,000 for it but she insisted I had to have it.  I was terribly lucky.

Funny enough, I'm incorporating the veil from that gown into my wedding dress for my upcoming wedding.  It's beautiful and it goes with my dress - a silver, spangly mermaid gown!  It will be my "something old".  LOL
  • @valeriecruz~ I actually got it off facebook, LOL! Never worn, the wedding didnt work out...the funny thing is 6 years ago i was engaged to my daughter's bio father, we planned everything in like two months, his mom owns a bridal store and i only could choose from two dresses ( that's all that was in my size) wedding didnt work out. So when my current relationship and I got engaged i saw this gown the next week and it was the dress i always wanted but couldnt afford it was on facebook...she wanted to get rid of it.

  • @jixxt I went with Casablanca 1900. My boutique had the Lazaro's at their sister store. I am in love with my dress and my wallet is grateful.

  • I found mine on the Internet kinda, I was watching I found the gown and the lady was looking for the "belle" dress. I wasn't floored by what she picked but I was curious. Not being much of a Disney fan I Google and fell in love with the bodice. And it was in my price range. I've tried on other dresses but kept coming back to it. I'm a belle bride!
