RSVP, no, gift?

So the obvi answer is you should never expect a gift from anyone (makes it not a gift but an obligation)
...however

for those of you who had folks RSVP no- family and such that you are close with but just can't make it (my family lives in GA and I'm getting married in MD) do they usually still send gifts? and if they don't come, when do they send the gifts??\

We received gifts from some of the people who were unable to attend. Not everybody.

I believe etiquette dictates people have up to a year after the wedding to send a gift....so who knows. Mind you, most people will not wait that long.

Don't expect a gift from anybody - family members, friends, etc - regardless of whether they attend the ceremony or not.

That line of thinking sets you up to be disappointed. Speaking from personal experience.

We got gifts from a few people who couldn't come. We also got zero gifts from people who did come.

Wait, that sounds like we got zero gifts whatsoever. I meant that some people who came didn't do gifts. You probably knew what I meant

I'd say you will probably receive some gifts in the mail for about 2 months after the wedding. A few more might trickle in after that but most people just take care of it right away. As an invitee to a wedding, if I cannot make it I always send at least a small gift to acknowledge that I appreciate their invite and congratulate them. However, this is not required nor does everyone do it.

Just don't expect anything otherwise you will be disappointed. If you have low expectations regarding gifts you will be all the more surprised if you receive some!
