Tell me about Moissanite

Hey all,

As I've been lurking around the boards I've come across the idea of a moissanite stone. Now, BF and I are at this point lightly looking online and plan to physically shop for rings in a few months (if not longer).

I brought up the idea of a moissanite and how we can get more bang for our buck. Immediately he says that they aren't as nice as diamonds, that he's be considered 'cheap' for buying that stone rather than a diamond, and he's worried they don't look as good. He also said he'd want to pass it off as a diamond, but everyone would know he couldn't afford the ring if the equivalent were diamonds. Personally, I don't care if people know or not. It the ring looks nice and we can use our money for more practical purposes than a diamond I am all for it (we have $3500 saved up, but I've researched that we could get an amazing ring for under $2000)

Anyways, I was curious what your experiences/opinions are of a moissanite stone. Do you feel cheapened that it's not a diamond? Also, I would love to see pictures, since on the website they of course look amazing :)

Re: Tell me about Moissanite

  • I was sneaky about this, I was concerned about the greenish tint or grey or whatever so when i first started liking moissanite I bought myself somenice little stud earrings. This is from back in the day where they didn't have the enhancements.  Anyway they were beautiful then and beautiful now, I see no tint at all and watched a look of embarresment wash over a saleswoman's face as she tried to trash moissanite.
I like them because they areextra sparkly, also i love that since they lab created the chances of getting a lower clarity stone are greatly reduced.
I got soured on diamonds when my last fiance insisted on a diamond, and after we were out of jewelry store lights I saw the MASSIVE inclusions and he wouldn't consider exchanging or returning it.
But I told my current sweetie that if he tried proposing to me with a diamond I would say no.
He wants me to have the ring I want because he wants me to wear every day forever.
Trial and Error, finally trial and WIN
