Vent: Would you make up your mind already?!

Let me start this off saying, I love the hubs with all my mind, heart, and soul. No doubt about it. But he may be the cause for the loss of my sanity before next June!

When we made the decision we would do a vow renewal, he told me to plan whatever I wanted. He said he didn't care how it was done or what the decor was, just tell him when and where and have fun with it. So, I start gathering ideas and checking venues out. At some point, he started asking me how it was going and what I'd come up with so far. I tell him and he wants me to scratch a bunch of thoughts and adds a bunch of his own. No problem. I get it. He's decided this is actually going to be a fun thing to think about and plan. Yay! Join in on the planning, dear, because it is fun and it is OUR vow renewal! So, I go back to thinking and planning and keep a list of ideas for when we have more than 5 minutes to talk. Well, the last time we talked, he asked how it was going and I told him I had some ideas but wanted to run them past him before pricing anything. He tells me something like, "Why wait for me? I told you whatever makes you happy makes me happy!" Grrr ...

This really is just a good-natured vent, I promise. We all get quirky. But, oh my gosh, I just want to pull my hair out sometimes! Anybody else's FI or DH driving you nuts saying, "Do what you want," but also wants you to run it by them first?

  • My FI is the same way with the wedding planning, but it doesn't really get on my nerves that much I guess. I mean I get aggravated when he says I don't voice my own opinion sometimes but that's it really. We were looking at bridesmaid dresses the other day that would be formal and within the girls budgets, and we couldn't find anything. So I start looking online while in the car with my man of honor. FI is driving and he's getting aggravated that I wasn't voicing my opinion on the girls dresses, but to be perfectly honest I don't really have a huge opinion on what I want the girls dresses to look like. I want them to have long, black, strapped, formal dresses. I do want them to be all the same style dress, and I'd like them to look formal, because we're having a formal wedding.

But other than that FI doesn't really get on my nerves. He and I are pretty good with wedding planning. We haven't had too many fights about it and we work things out pretty well. Smile
  • Luckily my FI just lets me run with it. He trusts my judgement over his. I've been working on some DIY projects and I just send him progress pics (he travels alot) and so far has loved everything I've come up with or he's graciously lying..lol. The only main issue we had was guest list and that's worked out.

  • My FI does that with with planning things too. Like He'll ask me what I want for dinner or what do I want to do this weekend. I'll throw out suggestions and he gets all crinkly nosed and doesn't take any of my suggestions. Then he complains when I'm indecisive, but it's usually because he'll just snub his nose at anything I suggest anyways so why bother.

  • My FI is that way in general. He will ask me what I want, like for dinner or where I want to go, what I feel like doing, but then he doesn't like my suggestion. Or he'll tell me to make a choice about something, like a limo we were taking to a concert, won't give me input, and then blame me if its not what he wanted. I can't stand it so sometimes I just won't make decisions, and that makes him mad too lol. Can't win.

  • I'm in total agreement. I think men don't know what they want, LOL.

  • cnf and rmp, our most common recurring argument is the "What do you want for dinner?" theme. It drives me up a freaking wall. I make 95% of the decisions around this joint, when I lob you a softball like choosing a restaurant for dinner, don't give me that "I don't care, whatever you want" nonsense, but then veto every suggestion I make.
  • We have the dinner argument EVERY night! FI always tells me just make it and I will eat it but here is my list of things I will not have for dinner! HAHA it cracks me up most of the time...sometimes though I get extremely frustrated!

p.s. his list of do not eat at dinner include cereal (sometimes I love cereal for dinner) and spaghetti! those are like my go to I don't feel like cooking this is all I can muster and he doesn't eat them!!! :)
  • My FI is the same way. Like the other night after our e-pics we were starving and had to decide where to go to eat. He was all "I dont care, we can go where you want" So I threw out like 5 suggestions, and his nose got all crinkly and was like "I guess we can go to one of those" You guess? I thought I was supposed to choose. Ugh. /rant.

  • Ok you made me really think this was a major problem the way you started is off. If this is the worst of your problems after 15 years of marriage, well then I think you guys are really doing something right!! Not that I can tell you anything, but guys are frustrating as hell, he really seems to want you to be happy but then gets interested too. It's kind of cute if you think about it :)

It is absolutely not a major problem. He's a great guy and I can think of way more things to compliment him on than complain about. Besides, I'm sure he's got quite a few legitimate complaints about me, too!
