No Grand Entrance!

Am I the only sort of bridal Grinch who isn't having a grand entrance at their reception? I actually plan on getting to our reception venue about 30 minutes before our guests so we can:

a) go over everything with our banquet captain
b) get Todd to get pics of the room set up and details without any guests
c) take photos with our Elvis & Showgirls before the guests arrive
d) go over any last minute things with coordinator

Our guests will be on the DDB so they will mostly be arriving together. Would it be weird turning up to a wedding reception where the bride and groom are already there? Every wedding I have been to has had a grand entrance, but I just plainly flat out refuse to partake in that level of attention grabbing (I mean no offence or disrespect to anyone who is doing this - its just not my or FI's style).

Re: No Grand Entrance!

  • we aren't having a reception in vegas, well just a little cake toast afterwards some appetizers, nothing major, but i've never been to a wedding where the bride and groom showed up before the guests.

  • I know its a bit weird... but I just dont see the point of being "announced" when we just had our ceremony and got announced then. I think its also cos we only have 34 guests so the whole thing just seems a bit over the top!

  • We will be doing the DDB with our guests so I don't know if we will do an entrance into the suite....I might just for the photo op lol we will see still need to ask my man. At our home reception tho we are actually going to greet our guests and the main door when they arrive. So no I don't think it's weird haha.

  • I'm not having a traditional reception just our in suite and we wont be making no grand entrance but I dont see it as weird by not having a grand entrance. I think I would be there early like you to make sure I got all those decorations and cake photographed and what not :)

  • No grand entrance here either! I'm arriving with my guests too. I'm not much for having the spotlight turned to me either so it's all good.
  • I think in vegas you don't really need one, now if we were getting married at home then yes it would be considered very different...but Vegas not at all.

  • I don't think it will be weird.  I think it will be fun to watch your guests come in and you can see their reaction to everything!

  • We're not doing one in Vegas - that would definitely be weird as we don't really have anything grand going on in which we would make an entrance into!

At our home reception we'll be there before everyone, and although family have suggested we leave and then re-enter in a grand fashion after everyone has arrived it just isn't our style and actually THAT would feel weird! Like you Mo I don't like the attention grabbing and would feel uncomfortable walking into a room full of people clapping, I want to greet our guests individually as they arrive. As a compromise we will be brought up to the stage by the band after their first set, just before we play our wedding DVD to our guests, so any clapping or toasts can happen then!

  • You are not alone! We are also doing a small reception, at a restaurant, and are forgoing an entrance, deejay, dancing etc. I like having things be a bit different! Everyone will be so excited to see and congratulate you, whether or not there is a formal announcement when you breeze in. Enjoy!
  • No grand entrance here, to me the grand entrance will be when the chapel doors open. I will be going to the reception with my guests
  • No grand entrance here either! Dinner at MAG, I suppose we will walk in a few minutes later as we will be taking photos, but no fuss.
