Color way darker than it seemed?!

So...my colors are purple and yellow but I wanted a darker less-purple-y shade of purple...so I chose the color Lapis for my bridesmaids dresses. Monday I went with one of bridesmaids to find her a dress [two have already gotten theirs, one more left now] and when she came out in a dress that was Lapis all I could say was, "wow...that's dark." The color looked a lot lighter on the website and catalog [shame on me for trusting those in the first place, I know!] so now I'm slightly freaking because I'm not sure how to match that to ANY purple decorations/flowers! And I'm definitely not changing it when two BMs have already gotten their dresses and it takes awhile for them to be ordered in the first place. So....help? =/

Re: Color way darker than it seemed?!

  • Maybe it won't look that bad to have a darker color purple with a pop of bright purple?  Different shades can go together really well!

But I know what you mean about the color being different.  I had the same exact problem! I thought it was going to be a rosey pink and instead it is like a watermelon red. Thank God my BM loves it more that color and that I didn't have really any other decorations that were based on that!

  • Perhaps the color of the dresses are darker than you expected, but I kind of like that they won't be the exact same shade as your flowers and all of your decor.

My wedding has lots of pink, but mostly light pink with all the decor and flowers. However, my BM dresses are a little bit brighter. I think they look better together than being super ridiculous matchy-matchy and I'm normally a super uniform, matching type person.

So, don't worry! I think the two shades will look really good together! :)

  • yes the lapis is darker in person..i wound up not getting teh girls dresses at davids bridal but we went with eggplant which is similar to lapis...dont worry about the color though it will be perfect for pictures and ur dress will definitely pop against the darker lapis for pictures!

  • Typically they will change the color of the dress if the other girls dresses haven't been shipped yet. Not sure if that is an option...then you could go with plum which is lighter but still not too purple-y.

  • I wanted a bright purple (mardi gras theme) and thought lapis would be great...until I saw it in the store. I ended up getting my girls regency instead. It's beautiful.

I also think that you can put different purples together and be ok... like this centerpiece have different purples..
