Freaking out a little over alterations

So I got my dress and then had it altered. It needed the bodice taken in. It also needed hemming, but with its shape the seamstress suggested just basically picking it up rather than hemming a ton of layers. I appreciate any suggestions that may save some money and it all came out to being pretty reasonable. I tried the dress on and decided I wanted to have cups added and taken in a little more, other than that everything's good and I wasn't planning on trying it on again until close to the wedding.

Looking at it though, I think the bodice got a little messed up with alterations and I'm second guessing the picking up as opposed to hemming as well.

(this is bustled, so extra poofy)

Is this something that can be fixed with some simple tacking or something or is it ruined? Or am I completely freaking out over nothing? I was going to show some pre-altered pictures but I think I deleted them :/

Re: Freaking out a little over alterations

  • If I have it correct, you're concerned that the bodice shape isn't what it was originally? I still think the bodice looks pretty good! I'm having trouble seeing what you see is wrong. If anything, the seams could be undone again and made "straighter" if that's what you're worried about? - to make the back of the dress material pull taught against your skin. But I'm not a seamstress so I don't know what I'm talking about.

Are you unhappy with the bustle?

  • I'm good with the bustle. My worrying is that the ruching looks mussed, for lack of a better word.

  • Do you mean the ruching on the lower left hand side?  It is hard to say if it was the alterations or because the fabric is so light and airy that the ruching or folds don't really want to stay in place.

I would bring this concern up to your seamstress to see what she has to say.

  • I see what maggie is talking about - see what you seamstress says about it. :)

  • can you post up a picture of the dress from the designers website so we can see how it looks  to get an idea ?
  • Yeah here it is:

If nothing else it makes me feel a lot better to not have you guys go oh gawd, that's awful! So I'm worrying over nothing. I will ask about it next time I go in but won't really worry about it til then. Thanks!

  • I think it's just seeing ruching on actual curves as opposed to a model. You look awesome and the dress is perfect for your body.
